Kamlesh Pandagre; 24 a determined; bright and promising young man paid the price for his amorous cousin's philandering ways and carnal desires as the supposedly wronged teenager's family tied him to a tractor and cold bloodedly set him ablaze in one of their numerous agricultural fields in Betul district's (Madhya Pradesh) Ambada village on a fateful Monday night........
According to alarmed; petrified and distraught fellow villagers; the allegedly harassed young woman's male kith and kin waylaid the unsuspecting youth; roughed him up and then proceeded to unceremoniously bundle him to the crime scene where they securely bound him to the tractor in question with the aid of both ropes as well as rags; doused him from head to toe with kerosene and then callously proceeded to set him alight with a lighter insanely and uproariously laughing and braying at the tormented young man's harrowing plight and pitiful deathly paroxsyms........
Fellow villagers who summoned up the courage to raise their voice against this inhuman and ghastly atrocity were silenced into grudging submission with implied death threats and the sinister threat of meting out the same plight to them if they did as much as interfere in a matter that involved a slighted family's so called honour and prestige........
According to a source who claims to know it all the antecedents of this hellish crime can be traced back to the two instances of the now deceased Kamlesh's 21 year old womanising cousin Ajay being arrested and later released on bail on two separate occasions (September 2015 and January 2016) on the grave charges of allegedly sexually molesting the teenaged girl despite dire warnings about the consequences that could befall him owing to his nefarious deeds and actions.........
Kamlesh was summoned by the young lady's male family members and haughtily ordered to ask his cousin to mend his loose and unpleasant ways or else the girl's family would be forced to initiate such measures that they deemed fit and appropriate to protect and uphold their family's invaluable "izzat and maryada" that was at stake according to their ancient thought processes........
Ajay continued to make advances towards the young woman notwithstanding his brushes with the law and implied threats of death and his blameless cousin Kamlesh ended up paying with his life for his cousin's follies as he ended up suffering 98% burns in the blazing inferno that engulfed his entire persona and ended up taking his last breath two hours or so after being admitted to the district government hospital by the very same villagers who were subdued into silence........
Local police officials who reached the above mentioned hospital on time (thank the lord for small mercies) duly recorded the brutalised 24 year old's dying declaration and proceeded to register cases of murder against five male members of the wronged young woman's family as well as four other unidentified men who were more than willing accomplices in this barbaric atrocity........
Three police teams have been duly constituted and entrusted with the onerous responsibility of apprehending all the nine accused who have been on the run ever since they made good their escape from the crime scene.......
And to think that we continue to pretend and persist with the tasteless and hypocritical charade of being denizens of a supposedly civilised; ancient and traditional culture; society and nation where human lives are valued; venerated; worshipped and celebrated.......
