THE ART OF WITCHCRAFT AND IT"S DEATHLY AFTERMATH.........

Jharkhand or more specifically it's hinterland (rural and semi urban areas) seems to be emanating as the nation's crime capital if the crime related stories emanating from the same are any yardstick to go by..........
Witchcraft or rather the alleged practice and propagation of this supposedly "deathly" art (if one can call it that) claimed it's latest victim in the form of a 60 year old widow residing in West Singhbhum's Roladih village when the deceased's nephew beheaded his paternal aunt for committing the unpardonable sin of having indulged in this propitious art........
This ghastly episode enfolded late on Sunday night when the accused Pator Barua unceremoniously barged into his aunt's house brandishing a menacing looking knife and then proceeded to decapitate his disbelieving aunt and also grievously injured his 17 year old cousin on his hands and abdominal area with the weapon of his choice before decamping from the area brandishing his aunt's lifeless head with him as a trophy of sorts.......
According to the case's investigating officer Barua kept his aunt's severed head in his custody throughout the fateful night and then sauntered into the adjoining Manjhari police station with the same as well as the bloodied murder weapon at around 11 a.m. or so on Monday morning confessed to committing the horrific crime and voluntarily surrendered before the authorities.......
Concerned and alarmed neighbours who heard the grievously injured 17 year old piteous cries for help rushed to his aid and transported him to the district government hospital in the wee hours of Monday morning where he is successfully recuperating from the life threatening injuries inflicted on him by his murderous cousin.........
The very same villagers also deposited the slain 60 year old widow's headless body at the afore mentioned police station some four hours or so before the main accused in the case walked into it's premises and surrendered before an astounded SHO........
In his confession to the concerned authorities; Pator Barua haltingly told the cops that he suspected that his father's continued ill health and indisposition was primarily caused by the mysterious and life altering spells cast on him by his very own younger sister who had supposedly acquired some form of mastery or the other of this mystifying and befuddling art according to the fellow occupants of the village and he decided to put an end to his beloved father's miseries by doing away with his supposed nemesis once and for all........
One only hopes and prays that the state government; concerned and well meaning individuals as well as other agencies commence an education drive expressly aimed at ending the prevailing beliefs and superstitions prevailing in the state's rural areas pertaining to the practice and propagation of this medieval and obscure art that seems to be claiming an alarmingly growing number of innocent and hapless victims owing to the suppositions and myths associated with it.......
