GALLANT SIKH TO THE RESCUE........

Sikhs have always been known for their doughty; selfless and humanitarian deeds and here is one more Sikh who has done both his community as well as humanity proud with his emulatory and noble deed........
April 14; 2016 (Ashtami) is widely celebrated and observed as the last day of the "Chhota Navratras" that precede the holy and auspicious festival of Ramnavami that more often than not succeeds the Punjabi harvest festival of Baisakhi by a couple of days or so almost every single time........
Most if not all Punjabi families immerse the khetri (wheat saplings grown over an eight day period) as well as other pooja samagri in flowing fresh water sources on this highly auspicious day and one Satish Kumar and his pious family members were doing the same when their seemingly idyllic and tranquil world seemed to come crashing down in an abrupt and unforeseen life threatening instant........
Kumar who was immersed in the process of immersing the afore mentioned khetri lost his balance in the process of bending over and soon found himself caught in the vortex of the swirling waters flowing in Ludhiana's Sidhwan Canal near the city's iconic Verka Bridge.........
Fearing for her beloved husband's survival (Kumar didn't know the basics of swimming) his distraught wife threw her dupatta into the strong currents but all her efforts cam to naught as her rapidly drowning husband failed to latch onto the same........
Alerted by the screams and cries for help uttered by the scores of bystanders; the hero of the moment 55 year old Satnam Singh rushed to the spot and proceeded to don the role of the proverbial knight in shining armour........
Setting aside all religious precedents and laid down practices in this regard; the doughty and alacritous Satnam unfurled his turban within the batting of an eyelid weighed the same down with a couple of strategically placed stones and threw the same towards the rapidly drowning Kumar who somehow or the other managed to hang on to the same this time around.........
Lo and behold!!! he then proceeded to drag the thoroughly shaken and petrified potential victim from his prospective watery grave bashfully waved aside the profuse and heartfelt thanks of the indebted family; proceeded to retie/refasten his now sodden turban and progressed on his merry way leaving in his wake legions of unabashed admirers who were extolling the virtues of his presence of mind and selfless act of valour that ended up saving a precious and invaluable human life........
Here's hoping that the rest of us take a leaf out of this valiant Sikh's book and reach out to fellow human beings who find themselves encircled/engulfed/overwhelmed by similar life threatening occurrences/instances whenever and wherever the same may occur.......
