According to reports emanating from various sources in the British media; the county sides management has succeeded in roping in former Sri Lankan skipper and highest run getter in the history of the T 20 World Cup Mahela Jayawardene's services for the forthcoming edition of the domestic battle for T 20 supremacy......
According to a statement released by the team director late on Sunday evening the 38 year old dapper and dimunitive batsman who is currently discharging the role of a batting consultant with the English team who finished as the losing finalists in the just concluded 2016 edition of the T 20 World Cup will represent the county side in 12 of the 14 matches slated to be played by them during the course of the domestic championship.........
On his part Jayawardene quipped; "Somerset has a long and illustrious history of boasting of some of the most dashing and suave names to have played this glorious game and I on my part will be doing mu utmost to add my name to that illustrious list of honours.........
Mahela will be joining the ranks of fellow overseas professionals like Chris Gayle who has just renewed his six month long contract with the club for the current season as well as former Pakistani speedster Yasser Arafat who has pledged his immediate future to the same side........
One may do well to recount or recollect the fact that Mahela has turned out with distinction for the Adelaide Strikers side in the recently concluded edition of the Australian Big Bash T 20 domestic championship and ended up scoring an impressive 191 runs in seven innings including two fifties for his team as well as notching up 299 runs at an impressive average of 49.33 for his team in the first edition of the Masters Champions League that was more than successfully held at the Abu Dhabi; Dubai and Sharjah cricket stadiums recently........
