Make Himalayan promises, self aggrandising claims, mouth platitudes, promise to move the heavens and then scoot; the Delhi police certainly seems to have mastered this tactic and a lot more besides as the crime related statistics and figures belie every hollow claim made by Delhi's police commissioners and highlight a terrifying situation/.scenario..........
One remembers the then police commissioner, one Neeraj Kumar's patently false and hollow ringing promises about moving the heavens and earth in an effort to make the national capital the safest and most secure place on planet earth in the aftermath of the barbaric attack on Nirbhaya and her male friend........
However the figures statistics pertaining to crimes committed against women between the first day of the new year (January 1, 2014) and February 28, 2014 belie any and every claim made by every Delhi police bigwig and starkly reveal that the national capital is becoming increasingly unsafe for it's millions of womenfolk...........
According to the latest crime figures put out by the NCRB; a woman is raped once in every four hour time span in the national capital, while she is molested once in two hours; what is even more startling is the reality that these latest figures are way over and above the corresponding figures for the year 2013 and firmly dismiss the self glorifying claims made by the Delhi Police as nothing but mere hogwash.........
A woman was raped once in every six hours and molested once during a four hour time frame during the same (corresponding) period in 2013; notwithstanding the surge in these figures post the infamous Nirbhaya episode that occurred during a cold and murky night in December 2012.......
And all this despite the Delhi Police's so called initiatives like the initiation of an exclusive helpline, setting up of help desks at any and every police station within the national capital's limits and last but not the least recruiting women police constables on a so called war footing...........
According to the latest figures; the number of rapes reported during this period stood at 314 (which works out to a figure of six rapes in a 24 hour time period or one day)...........
While, 676 cases of molestation were registered during the same period i.e. 11 cases of molestation reported daily during this period in the ongoing year........
What is even more alarming is the fact that though the crimes committed against women are on the rise, the success rate of the Delhi police in solving these inhuman crimes against women is on a dizzying downward spiral.........
Delhi police bigwigs claimed to have successfully solved over 75% of rape cases as well as over 86% of the molestation cases reported or registered during the first two months of 2013........
While the very same Delhi Police has only been successful in solving 69% of the rape cases and a little over 61% of the molestation cases filed by the city's womenfolk during the first two months of the calendar year 2014 despite the adoption and initiation of so called professional and innovative investigative methods as well as sensitising it's lower ranks to the special needs of Delhi's harassed women............
One really wonders whether the Delhi police bigwigs are indeed serious about solving the alarmingly increasing crimes against women or then are their supposed efficacious and Holmesque investigative methods just another carrot dangled before a gullible and innocent public............
One remembers many a Delhi based politico offering to reduce the number of security personnel deployed to him/her by more than half and redeploying the same so that the national capital was indeed made a far more safe and secure place for it's long suffering women............
Will the serving Delhi police commissioner shed light on the the contentious issue of the exact number of police personnel deployed to arrest this alarmingly growing trend and apprise us about their levels of training and expertise in solving such crimes within a specified time frame; or then is he also more interested in running down the erstwhile chief minister (Arvind Kejriwal) a la his predecessors because he believes that doing the same would fetch him a few more brownie points from his Congress political bosses.........
