Despite all the hype, hoopla, noises, implied threats, candle light vigils; so on and so forth, the atrocities against Indians belonging to the north eastern parts of this glorious country simply refuse to go away like a persistent bad dream..........
In the latest such instance of monstroities, a female student of the Delhi university was allegedly roughed up by two hoodlums in the national capital's Vijay Nagar area as she resolutely refused to essay the role of demure damsel and give in to their suggestive overtures without a whimper of protest..............
According to bystander (eyewitness) accounts, this latest incident involving an Indian from the north east occurred at around 9:30 pm on Friday night when the victim was returning to the Vijay Nagar area which is located in the vicinity of the prestigious North Campus area..............
The two male assailants who have since been identified as Manpreet and Kamal got into a scuffle with the victim's brother on the flimsiest of pretexts and then proceeded to unceremoniously slap the victim and rough her up when she gallantly came to her brother's rescue.............
Local residents did not shy away from playing their part and promptly caught hold of one of the assailants (Manpreet) beat him black and blue and subsequently handed him over to the local police personnel..........
What compounded matters was the fact that this unpleasant incident followed close on the heels of a similar unsavoury incident involving an east Delhi based self appointed "Khap Panchayat" who bestowed unto itself the divine right to issue a bizarre diktat ordering all the colony's residents belonging to the north east immediate removal from the colony as they were undesirable elements supposedly shunned and ostracised by the residents of the said locality.............
This seemingly insane and logic defying diktat was issued on Thursday evening and this unseemly incident followed in it's wake on Friday night.........
As things stand at the present moment, cases have been booked under sections 354A, 354B and 323 against the accused and a lookout notice has been issued against the absconding assaulter Kamal.........
One can only hope and pray that the two above mentioned episodes wake up the apologists and escapists from their deep slumber and hibernation at long last; the time for doling out excuses and mouthing meaningless inanities is well past us and the time for confronting our heinous racist underbelly headlong is nigh upon us; so do arise, awake and smell the coffee............
