Now this certainly is a film worth your while that will not only force you to sit back and think but also start doing your bit towards your nation and society..........
24 FPS Films Maiden Production "Shorgul" which is slated to hit screens nationwide come June 24; 2016 points your attention towards the inexorable and undeniable fact that all religions more or less spread the same beliefs about humanity and goodness prevailing all else as well as underlining the futility of extremism and fundamentalism that does untold damage to the secular fabric of the country and only serves to divide people in the name of religion rather than uniting them under the all encompassing umbrella of humanity.........
Featuring proven and stellar talents like Jimmy Sheirgill; Ashutosh Rana; Eijaz Khan; Sanjay Suri; Hiten Tejwani and Deep Raj Rana (to name just a few) "Shorgul" without pulling it's punches or compromising from exhibiting the heinous and macabre underbelly of our so called enlightened and progressive society and unmasks our true identities and the hideous face that stares back at us every single time that we look at ourselves in the mirror......
Largely set or based in any and every part of India where a frenzied and bloodthirsty mob belonging to one religion derives perverse pride and pleasure from lynching a gent belonging to another religion to a torturous and gut wrenching death; while yet another bunch of goons gets on with the deplorable act of emptying the roads of the last vestiges of fellow human beings so that the supposedly "pious and sacred" Friday prayers can proceed without any unforeseen or unanticipated hitch or glitch.......
In short "Shorgul" is a stark; telling; unapologetic and no holds barred narration of the troubled and turbulent times that we live/exist in; times where a thriving and somewhat unholy and convenient nexus between politicians and religious fundamentalists rules the roost and does it's best or then should I say worst to put paid to the noble intentions of the architects of our esteemed constitution who swore by the nation's "secular" ethos/spirit and a land where Indians from all religious denominations could co-exist in a spirit of harmony; brotherhood and mutual respect for each other's religious practices and ideas........
I for one will be ardently hoping that this "realistic caper" with a real rather than imagined difference will more than succeed in it's expressed or avowed intention of making people or then should I say Indians "act" rather than "react" as they have been doing for the last 70 years or so.........
More significantly; I for one hope an pray that this film coerces us into questioning the bizarre and inhuman diktats passed by our self appointed and styled religious leaders whenever they please; end their hegemony and reign of holy terror and usher in an era where the divine spirit of humanism and brotherhood prevails over all else...........
