REMAINS OF ANCIENT URBAN SETTLEMENT EXCAVATED ON CHANDIGARH'S OUTSKIRTS.........

In what is being touted as one of the most significant archaeological or then historical finds in recent times, the remnants of an ancient city dating back to the 2nd century B.C. have been unearthed on the outskirts of the union territory of Chandigarh..........
According to Tarighat (approximately 30 kms from Chandigarh) excavations director and eminent archaeologist J.R. Bhagat, this stunning and epochal discovery is the end result of a sterling effort that began a little over a year ago with Bhagat and his team of dedicated assistants trying to throw light on the discovery of certain artefacts and relics from by gone ages in and around Tarighat........
"Proceeding meticulously and unravelling or excavating each layer sagely and judiciously we have managed to delve a little over 35 metres below the site's top surface and what we have found belies all our expectations and simply takes our breaths away as we have managed to discover the ruins or remnants of a partially burnt city that possibly dates back to the second century BC"...........
"We started excavating or discovering remains of historical sites of comparative recent vintage i.e. sixth century AD at level or then layer one of the excavation site and have now succeeded in unearthing the remains of an ancient city that could have been razed to the ground in the second century BC in the same manner as the famed Roman city of Pompeii was buried under tonnes of volcanic ash spewed by the infamous Mount Vesuvius (most celebrated volcano in the world)", Bhagat concludes........
According to a gushing assistant, an approximately eight foot high patch was discovered or unearthed between the 9th to 12th layer of the site and carbon dating of the relics found at the site in question have conclusively established the fact that the remains of this city or completely gutted settlement date back to the second century BC and the blackened walls and ash discovered at various locations conclusively prove that the settlement was completely razed to the ground by some opposition force or the other............
"Patches of burnt wall, floors, charcoal, remains of bamboo, brickbats, pieces of pottery ( a few whole or complete samples have also been excavated) and post holes discovered in the trenches sunk by us in the course of our dig have established the fact about a thriving urban centre that was completely and utterly devastated in a raging fire existed at this very spot in the second century BC", the assistant signs off..........
Here's wishing Bhagat and his merry or then should I say eccentric bunch of intrepid explorers many more such euphoric and meteoric successes, may their tribe increase...........
