People hailing from the north eastern parts of our glorious motherland do certainly seem to be bearing the brunt of other people's brutishness, loutishness, misplaced aggression and last but not the least racist tendencies to say the very least........
The national capital certainly did itself no favours whatsoever and more than lived up to it's dubious distinction of being the country's "racist" capital as an Assamese student was mercilessly thrashed by one of his juniors within the college premises on Tuesday........
This heinous and reprehensible incident occurred within the premises of Delhi University's PGDAV College (South Campus Area) and according to unconfirmed reports, the main accused who was promptly suspended by the college authorities was arrested by the Delhi police late on Tuesday evening.........
According to the complaint filed before the police authorities by fellow students and eyewitnesses, the hapless victim Arun Saikia who is a final year Political Science (Hons) student was stoically and patiently awaiting his turn to be served his share of the delicacies dished out for lunch in the college's cafeteria when the assailant/accused Sonu unceremoniously bumped into him from behind and disdainfully asked him to step aside if he knew what was good for him........
Matters soon flared up as the victim stood his ground and objected to the assailant's (Sonu's) rowdy like behaviour and other students too admonished Sonu for the same, but Sonu paid little heed to the warnings of his fellow students and threatened Arun with grievous bodily harm if he did not step aside and give him right of passage.........
Arun, to his credit however remained steadfast and resolutely refused to step aside as a result of which, the accused (Sonu) firstly soundly abused him by freely using racial epithets and then rained a barrage of blows on him before fleeing from the spot.........
Arun Saikia who suffered bleeding injuries on his lips, face and right eye was immediately rushed to the office of the principal by irate fellow students and administered medicines that were well past their expiry date (as claimed by the victim)..........
To his credit, the principal promptly suspended the offending student Arun (first year Sanskrit (Hons) srtudent) and instructed his staff members to cordon off and seal all exit points of the college so that the accused could be confined within the same, but was soon apprised of the fact that Sonu had managed to scale the walls and made good his escape.......
Delhi police officials were then summoned to the principal's office and a complaint was registered against the assailant under sections 323 and 341 of the Indian Penal Code and as mentioned earlier, according to unconfirmed reports, the accused was arrested from a location near his residence late on Tuesday evening........
How do five additional minutes make a difference in the life of a nation that has been waiting for basic facilities like potable water, usable toilets, housing, motorable roads and electricity since eternity; is a probable five minute wait cause enough to mercilessly assault a fellow student????well I will let you take the final call on this one.........
