People/candidates seem to be contesting elections for reasons that may seem to be bordering on the fringes of sanity or then for reasons that seem to be of utmost importance to them; digest this Modi's Ahmedabad now boasts of an independent candidate who wants to espouse the cause of "harassed" husbands........
Dashrath Devda, the popularly elected president of a group of "harassed" husbands filed his nomination as an independent candidate from the Ahmedabad East constituency, Devda was accompanied by at least twenty members of his organisation Akhil Bharatiya Patni Atyachar Virodhi Sangh at the moment of filing his nomination papers........
According to Devda his sole intention behind contesting the elections is to espouse the cause of abused and tortured husbands; "the existing laws pertaining to the issue of domestic violence are heavily skewed in favour of women and I intend contesting these elections as the same provide me with a ready made platform to take up the cause of long suffering husbands, espouse causes dear to them and spread the message that these biased laws need to be made equal and balanced for both sexes"......
Devda also says that he hoped to generate a corpus fund to contest the forthcoming elections by requesting all men faced with or confronting a similar situation to contribute 1 Rs. each towards his electoral fund; "my organisation boasts of a little more than 52,000 odd members at present and around 300 or so of them are active in the field disseminating my message and garnering support for my cause".......
He also says that he more than hopes to garner plenty of votes from the fairer sex as he is not opposed to the fairer sex per se and only steadfastly or then vehemently opposed to laws that lean heavily in their favour..........
Devda's trenchant, strident and somewhat militant opposition to the "domestic violence" related laws have landed him in many a sticky predicament or situation, the Gujarat High Court once imposed a fine of Rs.1 lakh on him for the very same reason but then though it fit to withdraw it's orders or strictures passed against him when they were apprised of the fact that he was a man of modest means (i.e. a man who was unable to pay the imposed fine)..........
His electoral vehicle christened "Ulti Ganga" prominently displays the afore mentioned fact about him being fined by the Gujarat High Court and advocates the cause of "battered" husbands through pamphlets, audio and video messages that implore/exhort the authorities to set right the so called anomalies in the existing laws and make the same equitable for both sexes.........
Is Devda likely to land himself in far more serious trouble with the courts this time around with his antics, theatrics and over the top histrionics or then will he emerge as some kind of present day messiah who valiantly took up cudgels in favour of supposedly harassed husbands and achieved unprecedented success in his life's mission..........
