Blatant hypocrisy, belated dawning of wisdom or then simply a face saving exercise, whatever you may choose to term or title it, the fact of the matter is that the BCCI mandarins or bigwigs have approached the Supreme Court of India asking for transcripts of the audio tapes containing the depositions made by erstwhile BCCI president N.Srinivasan and present team India captain before the Justice Mukul Mudgal committee........
To jog one's memory and bring one up to speed, the Justice Mukul Mudgal committee was appointed by the Supreme Court to probe all the betting and match fixing scandals floating around the BCCI's prized possession or property namely the Indian Premier league or IPL.........
The BCCI's latest plea was mentioned/made before a bench headed by Justice A.K. Patnaik and the matter was posted for hearing on Friday April 11, 2014........
According to BCCI sources, the BCCI has also sought or requested the court to provide it with the transcripts of the depositions made before the very same committee by Mr. Sundar Raman, chief operating officer of the IPL and a faithful Srinivasan (India Cements) employee to boot........
Senior Advocate C.S. Sundaram who was appearing as the BCCI counsel sought the above mentioned transcripts on the BCCI's behalf during the course of his arguments in which he highlighted the importance/necessity of the same........
On being asked why they needed these much sought after transcripts post haste, the BCCI counsel replied that the transcripts would prove to be of immense/invaluable help in framing the arguments/matters/issues that the BCCI wanted to raise before the court during the course of the next hearing on the matter.........
One would do well to remember the fact that the next hearing in this case which has occupied the headlines and much media space for the last few months is slated for April 16, 2014 and speculation is rife that the Supreme Court mat pass even more severe strictures against the beleaguered or cornered BCCI during the course of the next hearing.........
