EMPOWERING WOMEN THE "AAM AADMI" WAY........

For all their pompous and hypocritical hypotheses on women's empowerment. the two so called national parties have failed to put their words into action and have thus allotted the least number of tickets to candidates from the fairer sex...........
The lists of candidates released thus far by all political parties on the horizon, unwittingly reveals the fact that the saffron party has fielded the least number of women candidates, a measly 8.5% or so, while the new kid on the block, the Aam Aadmi Party has so far taken the lead on this issue and given a little more than 15% of the tickets allotted thus far to deserving women..........
In this case, the Indian National Congress has done slightly better, it has condescended to reward 53 women candidates (around 12.5%) with tickets, for the record, the Congress party has released lists comprising of 417 candidates thus far.........
Most if not all of the women candidates announced thus far by the fledgling Aam Aadmi Party are working at the grass root level and reaching out to the lowest common denominator a la Soni Sori (tribal rights activist) or Tiliya Devi (Nobel Prize Nominee).........
Other young and highly successful women like Meera Sanyal and actress turned politician Gul Panag also make up the numbers but they are in a conspicuous minority.......
For reasons best known to them, the two so called national parties have almost exclusively allotted tickets to women candidates from the worlds of cinema, political dynasties or royalty as if the woman at the grass root level was an anathema and did not matter in their grand scheme of things.......
What is even more encouraging and heartening is the fact that the Aam Aadmi Party's doughty women candidates are confronting political heavyweights from other political parties as also any number of candidates with criminal antecedents without taking a backward step.........
Here is one such example, the fearless and resolute Anjali Damania who almost single handedly exposed the gargantuan Maharashtra Irrigation Scam is undauntedly taking on former BJP president Nitin Gadkari in his pocket borough of Nagpur........
While the two so called national parties have gone back on their promises and shamelessly tied up with parties headed by convicted criminals or then fielded candidates with a plethora of criminal cases against them and condoned or explained their questionable behaviour by quoting statistics to the effect that one amongst three candidates with criminal antecedents is successful at the political hustings, the Aam Aadmi party is the only party that has put it's money where it's mouth is and not fielded a single candidate with a criminal taint..........
What is even more noteworthy and creditable is the fact that the AAP's numerous women candidates are steadfastly facing sexist barbs, anatomical innuendos, implied threats et all, but are singularly refusing to take a backward step even when confronted with the heinous spectacle of a traditional male driven social set up........
One only wishes that the established political parties had paid due care and diligence to the seemingly trivial matter of choosing their candidates and not fallen prey to the vagaries of grabbing power at all costs, women's empowerment is the only way out of this caste, creed, sex, and male driven cesspool and one wishes that the others had taken a leaf out of the Aam AADMI Party's book and gone about empowering women in an expeditious manner..........
