Whoever said that India was a poor country abounding with impoverished souls struggling to keep body and soul together would certainly not have had these canines in mind while making this observation.........
Not being satisfied with their exalted and envied staus of being the sole inheritors of prime real estate in one of India's fastest growing cities Ahmedabad; these "blessed" canines (dogs) gorge themselves on dry fruit infested "Motichoor" laddoos as well as rotis laden with "shuddh desi ghee and copious amounts of delectable "malai" every single day of their lives........
Kadva Patidar Bhaag Samast Trust was formed by a group of nine philanthropists who thought it worth their while to transfer a plot each of land on the name of these fortunate canines some 9 years or so ago thereby leading to their exalted and much envied status of being the whole and sole owners of 99,505 square yards of prime land in Ahmedabad's Chandkheda area with the same being valued at a little over 150 crore at today's market rates........
Eccentrically and cantakerously managed by a group of trustees lead by leading real estate developer Anand Patel; members of this motley group not only sing bhajans at various religious gatherings in an effort to raise funds for the trust but also do not shy away from seeking funds from the area's residents as well as other well wishers in order to ensure that these pampered canines do not want for anything..........
More than 400 dogs gorge on dry fruit laden laddus, soaking rich rotlas, soya beans, rice, lentils and sweet potatoes twice a day every single day of their natural lives and efforts are underway to increase the number of dogs fed every single day to more than 500 by the end of the year.... ....
In order to assuage any guilt feelings about pampering or favouring dogs and neglecting other animals; the trust members have also launched a project under which cows and crows are fed twice every single day with the slightly more humble "ghatiyas" which is the staple snack of every self respecting Gujarati worth his/her salt........
In addition to the love and care lavished on these "blessed" canines the trust also holds periodic eye, skin as well as oral care camps for canines with the aid and connivance of a leading veterinary hospital in addition to educating residents about canine rights and the need to eradicate animal abuse from our very midst..........
The supposedly wise and enlightened soul who once made a pithy remark about it being a dog's life must surely be eating his words with copious amounts of salt after being informed or educated about the life and times of these "divine" canines............
