Can it get any worse for the long suffering and constantly victimised womenfolk of this supposedly civilised and tolerant country........
In a bizarre; dastardly and utterly despicable incident; a woman was set ablaze within the confines of a bogie of a stationary train which had halted as per schedule at a railway station in Kerala's Kannur district.........
According to bystanders as well as the police personnel investigating this sordid case; Pathuti alias Khadeeja (40) a long term resident of Malapurram district had parked herself on an empty berth within coach number S-13 (second class sleeper coach) and was comfortably reclining on the same when the train arrived at the fateful station at around 4:30 am or so on Monday morning..........
Within the batting of an eyelid; hundreds of people were confronted with the inhuman spectacle of an aflame Khadeeja jumping out of a stationary train and collapsing in an unceremonious heap in their very midst; alert fellow travellers managed to put out the flames by dousing copious amounts of water on a furiously burning Khaddeja but the damage was done by then as the victim suffered more than 65% burns.........
A couple of fellow passengers also swore to the fact that a grievously injured Khadeeja who was immediately rushed to the government run district hospital was seen furiously arguing with an unknown and yet to be identified male who made optimum use of the ensuing confusion and mayhem by making himself scarce while others were trying to douse the flames that engulfed Khadeeja...........
Khadeeja succumbed to the grievous burn injuries inflicted on her by the unidentified male within a mere matter of eight hours or so but not before recording her dying declaration in the august presence of a judicial magistrate and squarely blaming the mysterious and elusive gent for the gruesome and pitiable fate that befell her..........
A forensics team that reached the said railway platform in the wake of this ghastly incident scoured the entire platform and managed to recover a bag; knife and empty bottle of country liquor from the very same; it is now being surmised that the victim was doused with the contents of the very same empty bottle and set aflame with the aid of three burnt matchsticks that were also recovered from the site of the inhuman incident..........
A case of murder has since been registered against person/s unknown and three police teams have been entrusted with the seemingly impossible task of identifying the assailant/s and apprehending him/them at the earliest..........
