Reassuring their age old commitment to the simmering Sikh community; all the Sikhs belonging to the Aam Aadmi Party's Delhi and Punjab units took out a 31 kilometre long cycle rally in the national capital early on Saturday morning.........
Expressing their solidarity with and unequivocal support for the families of those Sikhs who had lost their kith and kin in the dastardly 1984 anti Sikh riots; this rally which was helmed by evergreen crusader H.S. Phoolka and members from the Shiromani Akali Dal Welfare Society traversed the 31 km long distance between Tilak Nagar and the iconic Jantar Mantar shouting anti Tytler and Sajjan Kumar slogans all the while.........
More than 250 odd people belonging to the Sikh community including Hari Nagar MLA Jagdeep Singh who saw his very own father being massacred by an incensed mob led by Congress leaders 31 years ago; the gathering raised slogans against both the Congress and BJP governments who had failed to provide them with succour and the ever elusive sense of closure for the last 31 years or so..........
Reposing their unstinting faith in the Indian Judicial System; AAP MLA Jarnail Singh quipped that he wanted the Sikh community to have the same faith in the government of the day but this faith and confidence would only come about when the government of the day helped them in their ceaseless quest for the much desired justice that had been eluding the community for the last 31 years...........
Addressing the gathering/congregation at the conclusion of the cycle rally; evergreen crusader H.S. Phoolka said that all the AAP Sikh MLA's and other prominent Sikhs belonging to the national capital region would submit a memorandum clearly elucidating their long standing/age old demands including the filing of a comprehensive and cohesive charge sheet against veteran Congressman and prime accused Sajjan Kumar.......
We will also be demanding the reopening of all the 237 odd cases in which clean chits have been given by the investigating agencies citing a lack of prosecutable evidence and such other hackneyed/stereotyped reasons as well as reopening the case against the hated Jagdish Tytler who was given a clean chit by the CBI despite 30 odd Sikhs giving sworn affidavits about his presence at various locations in the national capital while the Sikhs were being butchered and massacred without mercy.........
Uday Bhan Singh who had come from Ludhiana in Punjab to participate in the cycle rally held out some optimism about Prime Minister Modi addressing their legitimate and valid concerns as he had time and again reiterated his government's commitment to bringing the perpetrators of the anti Sikh riots of 1984 to book........
"We will give the Modi government 6 months from the date on which we present our memorandum to Prime Minister Modi in person as the 6 month period is more than adequate to initiate the wheels of justice as well as comprehensively concluding all pending cases pertaining to the blackest/darkest period in India's post Independence history", H.S.Phoolka signed off.........
Here's hoping that Prime Minister Modi and his fellow cabinet ministers honour their oft repeated promises in this case at least as the long suffering Sikh community more than deserves the long elusive and much sought after justice and sense of closure that has eluded it till date.........
