In what must come as a huge dampener to their chances of annexing the Cricket World Cup 2015 after a rather lengthy 23 year hiatus; iconic off spinner Saeed Ajmal has voluntarily withdrawn his name from the proposed Pakistani squad for the premier ODI tournament........
According to Pakistani Cricket Board (PCB) sources; Ajmal voluntarily withdrew from the proposed team as his chances of getting his supposedly "illegal" bowling action (his arm was bending well above the allowed 15 degree mark at the time of delivery) validated and legitimised before the onset of the tournament were next to nil and any hasty action taken in this regard might have caused the premature end of his cricketing future.........
The 37 year old Ajmal will in the interim continue the remedial work on his bowling action under the eagle eye and tutelage of former offie Saqlain Mushtaq and keep plying his trade in the Pakistani domestic circuit until he musters up the courage and gumption to have his bowling action scrutinised by an ICC recognised or mandated testing facility.........
Throwing further light on the imbroglio; a senior PCB functionary said that they did not deem it wise or sagacious to even take the merest chance of getting Ajmal's contentious action tested as the latest reports emanating from the rehabilitation facility seemed to suggest that Ajmal was still bending his bowling arm well beyond the permissible 15 degree limit at the moment of delivery even after nearly three months of remodelling and rehabilitation..........
He also said that the PCB was more than aware of the unpalatable and unpleasant fact that showing any undue haste in this regard and pushing Ajmal to take the mandated tests (on his bowling action) prematurely could have caused interminable harm to his dwindling career as he might have well been suspended from playing all formats of the game for a one or two year period if he had flunked the tests on his disputed bowling action........
One may do well to recall the fact that Ajmal who has emerged as Pakistan's numero uno spinner and leading light in all three formats of the glorious game for the last three and a bit cricket seasons was banned from bowling in international cricket after failing the ICC test in September 2014 and has been undergoing remedial and rehabilitative measures ever since..........
Pakistan has to name it's final 15 man squad for the premier cricket tournament on or before January 7; 2015 and is currently moping about what with a similar sceptre hanging on batting all rounder Mohammed (the professor) Hafeez who was banned for a suspect action last month........
