In a scene reminiscent of many a Hindi potboiler a father son duo gave themselves up before the Naroda (Ahmedabad) police personnel late on Monday night with bloody swords in hand and blood soaked clothes adorning their bodies.........
Mahendrasinh and Gajendrasinh Chavda constantly kept repeating that they had literally slaughtered their neighbour Bharat Patel at Vatva's Rajiv Park owing to his age old tendency of making obscene and suggestive gestures at Mahendrasinh's long suffering wife...........
Recovering from their initial shock and stupor; the startled cops immediately rushed to the spot referred to by the father-son duo and found a profusely bleeding Patel writhing in pain and feebly calling out for help.........
They immediately rushed him to the nearby Civil Hospital where he passed away owing to the 25 odd stab injuries inflicted on him at around 3:30 am on Tuesday morning despite the valiant efforts of the doctors to revive him and save his ebbing life......
Preliminary or initial interrogation of the two accused has thrown up the fact that Mahendrasinh and Bharat Patel were also co-workers at the city's Arvind Mills apart from being long standing neighbours and that Patel was in the habit of making sexually laden and highly suggestive gestures to Mahendrasinh's wife and refused to refrain from this highly offensive tendency despite being warned about dire consequences on numerous occasions.........
Fed up with and highly perturbed by Patel's nefarious tendencies; the father- son duo hatched a plot to do away with him and lay in wait for him near the said canal at around 10;30 pm or so on the fateful night; they set upon Patel as soon as he happened upon the spot on his way back from work; stabbed him 25 times or so and then proceeded to wend their way to the afore mentioned police station where they surrendered before a group of utterly disbelieving policemen.........
The father -son duo have been arrested on the basis of a written complaint filed by them against the deceased son's Kapil and murder cases have been filed against the two of them...........
Vigilante justice or just dessert for one's sins of omission or commission I will step back and let you take the final call on this one..........
