LUV, SHUV TEY CHICKEN KHURANA!!!!!

Once in a while, does one come across a flick or movie that has you rolling in mirth and merriment well after you have stepped out of the dark and rather confining climes of your neighbourhood multiplex; Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana is one such rare gem, and all credit to Anurag Kashyap productions and UTV for having conjured up the same........

Luv Shuv narrates the trials and tribulations of the rather hassled life of a highly confused Videsh returned Indian Omi Khurana (Kunal Kapoor) who returns home from his highly forgettable sojourn in the land of the queen, only problem being that he now owes more than a few thousand pounds to some rather unsavoury characters who are out to extract their pound of flesh any which way they can......

So thus returns this perennial loser to the supposedly safe and congenial climes of his ancestral/family home in Lalton Village in rural Punjab and is largely welcomed by his more than ample family members with a bhangra/shangra and gidda/shidda, though as always there are a few exceptions to the rule.........

And so begins a turbulent, sometimes exasperating, somewhat exhilirating, but, largely mirthful journey towards procuring the time honoured family recipe from Daarji (Vinod Nagpal), only problem being that the thespian has long lost his memory and mentally resides in some place resembling "cuckooland".........

But, our male protagonist is certainly made of sterner stuff and continues to persist in his endeavours to procure the highly treasured recipe, as procuring the same is his only means of redemption, and besides he also has the Videshi gangsters breathing down his neck and insistently demanding their pound of flesh.........

Replete with earthy and rustic Punjabi humour and an ensemble supporting cast comprising of a semi-mental Titu Mama (Rajesh Sharma), a gospel or rather scripture spewing Bhuaji in the form of the spunky Dolly Ahluwalia, and his cousin Jeet (Rahul Bagga) who is his unwitting partner in his rather clumsy and tardy efforts to lay his hands on the elusive recipe........

A word or two about the Doctarni heroine (Huma Qureshi) and the first time director Sameer Sharma is certainly in order, the two of them are in fine form, Ms. Qureshi comes up with yet another bravura performance after the immensely successful "Gangs of Wasseypur-2" and Mr. Sharma does certainly hold out a lot of promise for the future and one expects him to exceed the standards of excellence achieved in Luv, Shuv....in his next directorial venture.........

But, the winner without a shadow of doubt is the rather unassuming and clean cut Kunal Kapoor, he does full justice to a rather meaty role into which he can sink his teeth into and also bowls the ladies over with his chiselled and clean shaven new avatar.........

This two hour and ten minute long comic caper is certainly reminiscent of some Amol Palekar and Vidya Sinha capers of the seventies, so do both your family and yourself a favour, head for your friendly neighbourhood multiplex and get lost in the madcap and somewhat endearing world of the Khuranas........

RATING:3.5/5
