The sordid sage of voyeurism and peeping tom's began at the Fab India store at Candolim and involved no less a personage than the Union HRD minister Smriti Irani and the malady slowly but surely seems to be spreading across every Fab India outlet in the country.......
According to sources in the know of things; this pathetic manifestation of sexism and voyeurism has also spread it's tentacles to the Fab India store located in Kolkata's prestigious Quest Mall (located in the prime area of Par Circus/Street).........
What is even more galling is the fact that the store manager one Arunava Ghosh more than willingly confirmed the fact that CCTV cameras were strategically positioned more or less in the same position and manner as the now infamous store in Goa (i.e. right outside the changing rooms); but then tried to outdo the damage done by his candid confession.........
Realising his gaffe; Ghosh tried to undo the damage by offering the rather hackneyed; escapist and stereotyped explanation about the said cameras being non functional and out of order for a considerable length of time; but his poker faced lie came to naught when a female reporter from a prominent English newspaper cross checked this with the security forces who duly confirmed that all cameras within the store and mall were in perfect working order..........
According to a conscientious staffer; the trial rooms in all the Fab India outlets are almost exact replicas of each other and most if not all cameras are more than eminently capable of capturing the distasteful visuals of a shopper's reflection through the so called "ventilation" gap above each dressing room's door.........
One really wonders why this retail outlet has to place CCTV cameras right outside the dressing rooms as is next to impossible to pilfer or siphon off clothes and other such materials from the dressing rooms as the customers are divested of all bags and other such stuff at the store's entrance by the security guards........
Smriti Irani's stature and clout lead to the arrest of four Fab India personnel in Goa (though the four were released on bail the next day due to the clumsiness and incompetence of the Goa police); but one wonders from where Kolkata is going to get it's very own version of an incensed; irate and smoking (from the ears) Smriti Irani..........
Time for the tempestuous; unpredictable and erratic Mamata Didi to uncover the Smriti Irani within her methinks; do kindly share your thoughts and insights in this regard...........
