GHUALM ALI SAHEB BRINGS THE HOUSE DOWN.........

Ghazal Maestro Ghulam Ali enthralled a raving audience with his faultless rendition of an evergreen classical thumri and his timeless ghazals and soon had them eating out of his hands begging for more.........
Khan saheb who became the first Pakistani music artiste to perform at Varanasi's antique and iconic Sankat Mochan Mandir ascended the stage set up in the temple's courtyard a little after 1 am or so on Thursday morning and was soon besieged by a plethora of requests for his immortal ghazals like "Aawargi"; "Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa"; and many such others.........
Thoroughly overwhelmed and humbled with the heart warming reception meted out to him by his fans and well wishers; the music maestro assured them that he would more than willingly oblige them provided they allowed him to indulge himself and render the evergreen classical thumri "Gori Tere Naina"...........
Though the thumri is not exactly his strongest point or forte; so faultless and inspiring was his rendition that the assemblage of fans; musicians; ustaads; mahants et al were soon seen and heard joining in; applauding his every alaap lustily and beseeching him for an encore.........
As is his wont; Khan Saheb graciously complimented the organisers for their sterling efforts and effusively thanked them for remembering a "small and pithy" artiste like him who graced the occasion despite being more than aware of the fact that other artistes whom he had growing up idolising and venerating had performed at this annual jamboree in the past and that trying to measure up to their gigantic status and extensive range would prove to be a feat well beyond his modest reach........
Narrating episodes of the tales he had heard from his immortal father Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Saheb about the performances and artistes who assembled under this roof time and again; Ghulam Ali Saheb revealed the fact that he had harboured an intention to perform on this stage at least once during his lifetime and this age old yearning was fulfilled thanks to the almighty Allah; Lord Hanuman; organisers and most importantly citizens of Varanasi who were gracious enough to host him and shower their unequivocal love and affection on him..........
Promising to return if invited again; Khan Saheb brought the house down with his soul stirring rendition of an evergreen Punjabi ghazal of his that had stood the vicissitudes of time and more importantly transcended the man made barriers drawn up between two nations that share a common heritage and culture.........
