One wonders whether Prime Minister Modi's utterances pertaining to the safety; security and well being of Indian women were just for public consumption as crimes against women continue unabated despite Modi's lofty pronouncements in this regard.........
And once again the national capital New Delhi leads the bandwagon with the news about a newly wedded wife hanging herself from the ceiling within two weeks of being married to merciless; savage and inhuman tyrant causing considerable consternation and dismay to all right thinking and well meaning folks.......
Depending on whether you prefer your glass to be half empty or then half full; a Delhi court provided the icing on the cake by convicting the murderous husband for the lesser crime of cruelty and overlooking the far more heinous crime of aiding; abetting and causing his wife to hang herself as the prosecution failed to prove the case against this sorry apology for a man in it's "informed" opinion.........
At the outset; let me make it clear that I for one am not holding the concerned court responsible for it's judgement made in this regard as courts have been known to pronounce judgements on every case depending on the credibility and certifiability of the evidence furnished before it every single time and this case was no different in this regard......
This case however points towards a larger malady namely that of a society that has come to regard it's womenfolk as second class citizens who only deserve to be humiliated; tortured; objectified, vilified; tarnished and raped with impunity as they are the supposedly inferior class and hence need to be reminded of their lesser status time and again........
Despite the history of the world being replete with examples of nations and societies that soon found themselves in the doldrums and on the perilous path of ruination all thanks to their nocturnal tendencies of confining women to the nether regions of their ranks; we as a nation and so called enlightened and progressive society seem to have learnt nothing from the annals of history and our political class seems to be drawing some kind of sadistic; sexist and perverse pleasure by making increasingly offensive and derogatory remarks against the seemingly hapless women of this country day in and day out........
What is even more appalling and galling is the fact that womenfolk within the ranks of such crass and vulgar political set ups are more than willing accomplices in their male counterparts "sterling" exploits as shocking and disturbing visuals of women folk applauding a slobbering Sanjay Nirupam who reiterated his sickening "thumkewali" comment about HRD minister Smriti Irani proliferated every news channel worth it's salt for the best part of yesterday as well as today..........
Every political party without exception is guilty of such reprehensible tendencies and what is even more appalling is the irrefutable fact that spokespersons of all such parties seem to deem it fit to point fingers at their political opponents and take pot shots at them rather than setting matters within their own rank and file right before launching tirades against others..........
It is abundantly clear that the politicians of this country are going to do precious little in this regard as union ministers are let off the hook by simply expressing their "regret" after making racist; tasteless and unsavoury remarks about the ethnic origins of one of the most powerful; women on planet earth..........
It is time we menfolk woke up to our responsibilities about doing our bit towards restoring the lost respect; rights; and status of the women who not only brought us into this world but fed, loved, nurtured and stood by us every living moment as mothers; sisters; wives and friends; let's all join hands in putting the Sanjay Nirupam's; Giriraj Singh's and all such others in their rightful places and telling them that such nonsense will no longer be tolerated.........
Or else let's simply accept the inevitable and bow down before the irrefutable fact that our society is soon going to be facing the unseemingly spectacle of a dastardly and doomsday like ending as we simply failed to do the right thing by our womenfolk when it was needed the most.........
