REVIEW OF "MAIN TERA HERO" !!!

One always ventures out to watch a David Dhawan directed venture with little or no expectations apart from those of being entertained and enjoying a hearty laugh at the mad cap and over the top antics of David's male protagonist.........
I for one, sauntered out to see David's latest directorial venture "Main Tera Hero" with rock bottom expectations and fervent hopes of being thoroughly entertained by the father and son duo (David and Varun Dhawan) with a present day revival or reprisal of the much vaunted David-Govinda magic, alas! my scant expectations were only partly met by this somewhat madcap venture.......
Suffice it to say that a few stray moments do evoke nostalgia and leave you yearning for more, like the character of the supposedly dreaded gangster essayed with elan and panache by the versatile and hilarious Anupam Kher who always speaks in echoes as he was born in the mountains.........
One more really entertaining and mirth evoking gag did surely get my goat; the one where the gangster's sexy and continually pouting muse harbours the apprehension that the two male occupants of the house are GAY and harbour romantic feelings for each other........
On the whole though, "Main Tera Hero" is a loud, somewhat tiring enterprise that leaves you dejected and deflated instead of rejuvenated, energised and pepping with new found enthusiasm........
What sorely lets down this venture from the Dhawan stables is the abject absence of witty repartee, smart and punchy punchlines and a coherent plot and storyline that manage to hold the frenzied and frenetic proceedings that unravel on the silver screen together.......
One must however take the time out to compliment David's talented and photogenic progeny Varun for he not only rescues this venture from slipping into the darkest depths of mediocrity and obscurity but more than holds his own with his John Travoltaish moves, Sylvester Stallonish punches and effervescent comic timing........
The two leading ladies: Ileana DCruz and Nargis Fakhri simply simper their way through this one and look sexy as per the demands made on them, though one did wish that Ileana had let herself go and made the most of the opportunity accorded to her in the second half of the flick........
All in all, I would end proceeding by saying that David and Varun certainly do succeed in making utter bewakoofs or monkeys out of us and extract two hundred or more of hard earned rupees from our pockets in the bargain.........
As the dreaded gangster's loyal sidekick or acolyte exclaims, "jaise ghar ki chhatt ko roof kehte hain, jaise saboot ko English main proof kehte hain, vaise har language amin aap jaison ko bewaqoof kehte hain".......
And sad to say, he hits the nail right on the head, we the audience are indeed bewaqoofs who always lose out in the quest to be entertained, thanks for showing us our mirror images and swearing to steer clear off the next David Dhawan venture.........
RATING:2.5/5, leaves a lot to be desired and frothing at the mouth at the very end.......
