NOVEL EXERCISE REDUCED TO A FARCE........

In a first of it's kind, candidates from the ultra prestigious South Bangalore Constituency namely the Congress Party's Nandan Nilekani, Bharatiya Janata Party's Ananth Kumar, Aam Aadmi party's Nina Nayak as well as the Janata Dal Secular's Ruth Manorama, participated in a one on one debate recently, alas, the organisers of the same had to call off this novel event midway as complete pandemonium reigned with sloganeering being the order of the day........
Chaos, pandemonium and complete confusion broke out at the event that was organised by the Bangalore Political Action Committee (BPAC) and was being moderated by the Biotech Major Biocon chief Kiran Majumdar Shaw in her avatar as an aware and concerned citizen and harbinger for change, but the same was soon reduced to a farce as the Congress and BJP workers who had inundated the crowd in large numbers began hurling abuses and jibes at each other as is their wont........
As has become the norm, restive and agitated Congress workers began calling the BJP's sitting/incumbent member of parliament Ananth Kumar the choicest of names and also began jeering him when he started reeling off statistics to prove his point about the Manmohan Singh government's disastrous economic policies and the ruinous effect of the same on what was once a flourishing and progressive economy........
To their credit, Messrs Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Ananth Kumar, Nandan Nilekani and Nina Nayak did try better than their level best to redeem a seemingly irretrievable situation by beseeching the agitated workers with folded hands and imploring them to maintain decorum and discipline, but the same turned out to be a rather futile exercise as the respective party workers were more interested in exercising their lung power rather than listening to their representatives........
What was even more heart rending was the fact that educated, erudite and cultured men like Ananth Kumar and Nandan Nilekani exchanged barbs and charges about the other scuttling the long awaited and eagerly awaited event and reducing the same to a farcical exercise.......
And so an event that was meant to herald a new beginning in Indian politics and usher in an era of face to face debates between candidates from the same constituency ended up being reduced nothing more than a sorry and incongruous spectacle all thanks to a bunch of hooligans who knew no better.........
