One wonders whether the Delhi police's self appropriated motto of "with you for you always" has any relevance or standing whatsoever with numerous instances of the Delhi Police's ham handedness and sheer apathy doing the rounds........
This one certainly takes the cake; a 23 year old woman who resided in an economically impoverished region of the national capital reportedly went missing and rather than providing salve to the worries of her parents and lodging a missing report, the Delhi Police's response was to ask her parents to keep the peace and not blow their lids off as their daughter was of "marriageable" age...........
And to confound matters, her distraught parents have all but washed her hands off her after a month or so since she went missing; they are least interested in knowing her married status, i.e. whether or not she eloped with a young man of her choice and subsequently married him or otherwise........
"Agar Police Waaley Hum Ko Yeh Bataa De Ki Woh Zindaa hain Yaa Phir Marmaragayi Toh Unki Badi Krupa Hogi, Humko Kissi Aur Baat Ki Kauno Chintaa Nahin Hain", the young ladies somewhat disinterested mother goes on to say........
According to the more concerned father"she (the young woman) informed me that she was going to her college to collect her marks sheet, I distinctly remember the day in question being a Monday, as she did not return after dark had fallen, we made a beeline towards the neighbouring police station in order to lodge a missing complaint but were completely shattered and heartbroken when the police officials steadfastly refused to register our complaint and callously asked us to locate or then trace her ourselves"........
According to the police register, the young woman went or then was reported missing from the national capital's New Seemapuri area on February 10, 2014.......
After about a week or so the Station Head Officer made a cursory and purely cosmetic effort to trace her by combing the neighbourhood with a so called search party in tow........
He then proceeded to call of the so called "search" for the young woman as soon as the sun disappeared over the horizon and then proceeded to laconically inform the parents that the supposed search was over as far as he and his fellow police personnel were concerned as they had come to the conclusion that the young woman had made off (eloped) with a man of her choice in their "informed" opinion........
And so hangs the fate of a young woman who is nothing more than a trivial addition to the already burgeoning numbers of "missing" women from the national capital....in fact, a concerned NGO had come to the conclusion that an approximate 3,500 women or more between the ages of 18 and 25 make a surreptitious disappearance from the national capital region.........
The very same NGO also points out that the Delhi Police has only been able to trace a mere 6% or even less of the 38,000 odd young women from this age bracket who went missing over the last decade or so despite their lofty and self serving claims to the contrary........
And people still continue to wonder why Messrs Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Somanath Bharti, Shazia Ilmi, Ashutosh and such notable others continue to cry themselves hoarse over the Delhi Police's callousness, apathy, indifference and outlandish attitude towards matters of policing.........
