What's with our 'fossilised" politicians a la Murli Manohar Joshi, Lal Krishna Advani, M. Karunanidhi, Parkash Singh Badal and such others of their ilk who are well into their eighties and resolute about continuing to politick at an age when they rightfully should be renouncing the world and planning their departures from planet Earth.........
As if the rumours, innuendos, malicious whispers, sniggers and I told you so's about the frosty and less than cordial relations between Bharatiya Janata Party Prime Minister Designate Narendra Bhai Modi and party patriarch L.K.Advani were not enough of a pin prick, here comes the news about L.K. Advani regressing into his childhood for the umpteenth time and throwing yet another tempestuous tantrum about wanting to contest the forthcoming parliamentary elections from Bhopal rather than his customary seat of Gandhinagar this time around.......
Party sources have indeed confirmed the fact that Advani clearly conveyed his preference for the Bhopal parliamentary seat vis a vis Gandhinagar in a candid chat with party president Rajnath Singh as he was spending sleepless nights over the fact that the media had gone to town with stories about the battle of egos between him and Modi; and these very same tales could cloud his political future as Modi loyalists could scuttle his chances by venting their collective ire against him and creating circumstances that could severely hamper his chances at the political hustings this time around.........
Advani is also said to have pleaded his case by touting the fact that other senior leaders had been accorded the "unique" privilege of picking and choosing their constituencies and the same courtesy should be extended to him too in view of his seniority and 'iconic" status within the realms of the saffron party........
While officially maintaining his considered stance about not having any problems whatsoever about contesting from Gandhinagar; Advani spelled out his marked preference for Bhopal in no uncertain terms as he was of the opinion that Bhopal would prove to be a walk in the park when compared to Gandhinagar and more significantly because he shares a far more congenial relationship with Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.........
Confirming his sycophant status senior party member and serving member of parliament from Bhopal kailash Joshi has expressed his reluctance about contesting from the same seat this time around and offered the same on a "golden" platter to the sulking patriarch.........
The final decision in this regard has however been left to the party's parliamentary board even as the news channels were abuzz with stories about Advani having skipped today's crucial meeting of the same and Rajnath Singh and Modi having put their foot down and nixing Advani's fledgling/fond dream about contesting from Bhopal........
Will Modi's writ run large or then will a compromise formula that satisfies both the factions be worked out as a face saver; whatever may be the ultimate outcome, there is no denying the fact that the so called "party with a difference" is the one that is most conforming to stereotype.........
