All those cynical; jaded and doubting folks who have got into the habit of crying themselves hoarse over the supposed or rather imagined demise of honesty; integrity; values; ethics and morals should not only eat their utterances but also take a close and candid look at themselves in the mirror after reading this one........
Morality; honesty; transparency and integrity triumphed in a heady and intoxicating manner when a humble and ubiquitous Mumbai based auto driver won over the hearts of both the police as well as the gent who had inadvertently left behind his belongings in the said auto on a sultry and humid Sunday morning.........
This incident occurred at around 10 am or so on the said morning when Bhandup resident Amit Nair who is gainfully employed as a materials manager in a Malwani based private firm hailed and boarded a nondescript auto rickshaw after having stepped out of the precincts of the same a few minutes back........
Nair who alighted from the seemingly anonymous auto rickshaw boarded a taxi at the fire brigade junction in the same area when to his dismay and consternation the distasteful fact dawned on him that he had absent mindedly left behind his bag containing Rupees 50,000/- in cash a tablet; his beloved mobile phone and other official documents in the auto that he had alighted from just a few moments back........
Cursing himself soundly and roundly admonishing himself for his callousness and carelessness he instructed the disbelieving and incredulous taxi driver to take a detour and make a beeline towards the Malwani police station so that he could lodge an official complaint pertaining to the loss of his personal belongings and effects.........
Lo and behold!!! Nair witnessed the all to rare miracle of the 27 year old auto driver who answers to the name of Jairam Ashok Kharwal making a surreptitious entry into the very same police station with the belongings left behind in his auto rickshaw by his last passenger and handind over the same to the inspector in charge as he was seemingly oblivious to Nair's harried presence in the vicinity..........
An eternally and profusely thankful Nair graciously and conscientiously offered Kharwal a cash reward of Rs. 3,000/- from his side which he graciously declined while saying that he was just doing his assigned and allocated duty as a noble Indian by returning something that did not belong to him and thus expected no reward either in cash or kind for his timely and emulatory gesture..........
The Mumbai police folks however seem hell bent upon making a hero out of Kharwal and setting an example for other fellow auto drivers to follow by promising to a arrange a felicitation ceremony in which Kharwal will be bestowed with a citation; cash award and character certificate by no less a personage than the Traffic Police Commissioner of Mubai city within the next few days.......
Well; well; well; honesty and integrity seems to be alive and thriving notwithstanding the doubting thomases and cynicists who had written it's epitaph rather prematurely and hastily.........
