In an incident right out of the annals of a 16 th century history tome, a woman was tonsured and brutally tortured by her in laws in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri district as they suspected that the woman was none other than an all powerful and consuming "WITCH"..........
This shocking, blood curdling, spine chilling and seemingly absurd incident was reported from the Nagla Satto village that falls under the Bewar police station limits in the district........
According to police sources, the victim one Shri Devi duly married one Ratnesh Kumar hailing from the same village some three months back or so; to her considerable misfortune, her husband passed away on the spot after being involved in a road accident on May 17, 2014 and her horrendous ordeal started within hours of her husband being cremated as her in-laws branded her a "witch" and accused her of consuming their son (whatever that means).........
Though this incident was reported on the night of May 17 and other such incidents were reported over the course of the next week or so; this issue only got the importance it deserved after the victim and her family members met the district Superintendent of Police Shrikant Singh on the morning of June 11 (as the local police simply refused to register a case against her in-laws despite being approached by the victim and her family members on three separate occasions) and narrated the sorry tale of the tortures that she was subjected to by her in-laws and other members belonging to her late husband's family........
On his part, Shrikant Singh not only patiently heard her but also issued prompt instructions to the Bewar police to register her complaint and initiate a speedy, timely and expeditious investigation of the same; cases under all applicable sections of the Indian Penal Code have since been booked against her in-laws and late husband's younger brother who still remain at large.........
The Bewar police has constituted three teams to nab the accused and is extremely hopeful of arresting them within the very near future..........
Rapes, torture, brutality, bestiality and last but not the least being branded as witches; women of all ages, economic and social backgrounds seem to be bearing the brunt of a misplaced sense of bravado and machismo in Akhilesh Yadav's Uttar Pradesh.............
To confound matters, Akhilesh seems hell bent on pretending that all is well with his state instead of addressing a rapidly deteriorating law and order situation that has already gotten out of hand; I for one wonder why the centre is hesitant to dismiss the Akhilesh Yadav government by invoking Section 356 as the ground situation is tailor made for the imposition of the same............
