Welcome back to the "old stone age" or then should I say "Indus Valley Civilisation"; archaic living conditions; pedantic and stilted mindsets; ironclad and iconoclastic laws and diktats; so on and so forth........
It really does not matter whether or not you term this bizarre; logic defying and seemingly insane diktat issued by the powers that be within the supposedly hallowed and sacrosanct ranks of the "mahapanchayat" constituted by the residents of Aligarh District (Uttar Pradesh's) Fatehgarhi Village.......
What makes this unwittingly hilarious; ironical and farcical exercise even more ironical and rhetorical is the ironclad fact that this so called mahapanchayat was passing this medieval and decrepit diktat banning the use of cellphones; jeans and T-shirts by all the female teenaged denizens of the village without exception at precisely the same time when Prime Minister Modi was issuing the clarion call exhorting his countrymen and women to put their beloved and dearer than life mobile handsets and start using the same as wallets and the like during the course of his much vaunted and universally followed "Mann Ki Baat" radio address on a typically balmy Sunday afternoon.......
Justifying and defending the hedonistic diktats; his royal highness or then should I say his loony highness Nekram Chaudhary; life time president of the exalted and detested 28 member "executive council" justified the "unanimous decision" by acerbically pointing out the fact that all the 200 odd residents of the village who voluntarily participated in this farcical and hypocritical exercise unanimously voted to impose the "ban' on the use of mobile phones; jeans and T-shirts by all the girls of an impressionable age as the usage of the same were morally; materialistically and intellectually corrupting them and impairing their though processes beyond repair and permissible bounds.......
Chaudhary also wondered why this decision was being singled out for special mention and unwarranted attention as the very same "mahapanchayat" had also passed yet another unanimous and sagely decision pertaining to the imposition of hefty and wallet emptying fines and levies on all those male and female residents of the village who were found imbibing the liquids that cause you to lose control of your senses (Liquor) as well as gambling or then whiling away their precious time in gambling and other idle pursuits.........
Yet another Chaudhary acolyte drew one's attention to the corollary about the girl in questions parents and other immediate family members being taken to task and socially and morally boycotted if their daughters/ nieces or the like summoned or then garnered the moral fibre; guts and gumption to defy the laid down law.......
Thank the good lord for tender mercies as the "mahapnachayat" failed to arrive at a consensus on the quantum of fines to be levied or imposed in each case and will be meeting again after a fortnight long interval in order to arrive at a consensual decision on the same........
