Here's a fitting rejoinder for all those doubting Thomases who had written off the irrepressible Sardar Harbhajan Singh and dismissed him as a spent force........
Punjab Ranji Trophy skipper Harbhajan Singh and up and coming middle order batsman Gurkeerat Singh Mann smashed or rather notched up match winning fifties (50's) as a marauding Punjab side handily beat a doughty Maharashtra by three wickets in a crucial Group B encounter in Pune earlier this evening..........
Chasing an imposing 204 in 51 overs for an exceedingly rare outright victory; the men from the land of five rivers were tottering at a rather sorry looking 68/4 at one stage thanks to three rapid strikes by the strapping Maharashtrian medium pacer Samad Fallah who was bowling with his tail up and threatening to sweep Punjab under.........
Cometh the hour; cometh the saviour/s and team Punjab found it's saviours in the form of the swashbuckling Harbhajan and cool as ice Gurkeerat Mann who refused to be daunted by the supposedly terrifying spectacle of a rampaging Samad Fallah and combined their energies to put Punjab on the path to victory with an enterprising partnership of 83 of 75 balls that changed the entire complexion of the match in the batting of an eyelid.........
Though Harbhajan (50 off 54 balls) and the pied piper of Punjab Yuvraj Singh who batted at number 7 owing to a sore throat; flu and high fever fell in quick succession; Gurkeerat remained undaunted on a match winning 73 off 80 balls and only returned to the pavilion when his team had galloped past the post in a mere matter of 46.5 overs thereby notching up it's second outright victory in three matches...........
Following their second resounding defeat in three matches; last year's runners up Maharashtra continue to languish at the bottom of group B while Punjab on the other hand top the group with 15 points from three matches owing to two outright victories and an impressive first innings lead thus far...........
Punjab seems well on it's way to making the semi final or then knock out stages of India's premier domestic tournament for the umpteenth time while Maharashtra seems to be losing it's sheen as a power to reckon with owing to two spineless and utterly reprehensible performances on the trot............
Punjabiyaan Di Balle Balle Baaki Saare Thaley; Thaley..........
