One only hopes that the latest much touted effort by the Railways to provide the long suffering passenger with wholesome and nutritious food at pocket friendly prices does not bite the dust like it's predecessors........
In it's latest and long awaited "culinary" initiative passengers on all express and mail trains will have the pleasure of gorging on wholesome, nutritious, hygienic and branded meals at pocket friendly prices come November 1.....
A draft policy which enables reputed players and brands like Kellogg's, Maiyya's, ITC, Kohinoor and MTR to serve pre-packed ready to serve delectable and lip smacking meals is ready and will be implemented from November 1 onwards on all express and mail trains equipped with a pantry car..........
In the first phase these pre-cooked meals and delicacies will be made available only on those express and mail trains that have a pantry car as an integral part of their arsenal and these afore mentioned treats will be a welcome addition to the somewhat impoverished menu that has become the bane of the long suffering traveller's life until now..........
Esteemed and valued passengers would also have the privilege of picking and choosing their fare from a menu card that shall prominently feature the "ready to eat" gourmet delights, their weight, date of manufacturing and prices; in addition to the menu all such meals will be served piping hot in a sealed and hygienic foil packing..........
Zonal Railway Managers have been empowered to fix the rates of all such "ready to eat" dishes within their respective divisions and the Railway Ministry does not foresee any imminent problems pertaining to the rates as the rates slated to be charged by the Railways will not be significantly different from those already being charged by the manufacturers/caterers...........
Extremely high volumes and immense branding opportunities will certainly force the chosen companies hands into making available these much sought after savouries at an extremely pocket friendly and reasonable price; according to a high ranking railway official; the chosen companies will also have to adhere to stringent national and international norms pertaining.to the packaging and quality of the fare served failing which the sanctioning authority shall cancel their operating licences forthwith; the said official concluded............
Well; I cannot say very much about Narendra Modi's oft promised "achche din"; but i do know for a fact that frequent travellers like me will certainly be blessing the railway minister for eternity if both he and his bungling officials get their culinary act right from November 1 onwards..........
