WITHER IPL CHAMPIONS!!!!!!

The reigning IPL season 5 champions certainly proved to be a damp squib in the ongoing Champions' Trophy T 20 tournament underway in the sylvan surroundings of South Africa even as we speak and achieved the dubious distinction of being the first team to crash out from the tournament.......

Besieged with problems even before the tournament got underway, the Kolkata Knight Riders never ever gave one the impression of gelling together as a team and one distinctly got the impression that there were some unpleasant undercurrents that were seeming to tear this talented team asunder.........

A team is only as good as it's captain and vice versa and to compound matters, Gautam Gambhir never ever got going during the two matches that he took the crease and his meagre returns of 0 and 4 from his two outings undermined his captaincy as he seemed bereft of ideas on the field and simply let the game drift even while a hapless Lakshmipathy Balaji was being taken for plenty by the opposing teams.......

Jacques Kallis split his finger after being hit on the same digit by his team mate Morne Morkel and was ginger thereafter and his dismissal for no score in the second outing only served to prove the fact that his injury was not only bothering him but also plying on his mind........

The dubious decision to leave out a firing Brett Lee from the line up of the team's second outing did certainly backfire on the team as the onus of taking wickets as well as keeping the big hitting opposition batsmen at bay squarely rested on the slender shoulders of the dimunitive Sunil Narine, and though he strove manfully for his teams cause, a single swallow does not a summer make.......

The lack of match preparedness clearly came through as none of the KKR batsmen seemed to have the wherewithal and technical expertise to cope with the seam friendly conditions and seemed to be flailing at deliveries that they would have been better served either leaving or then meeting with a dead straight bat..........

It is high time that the team management puts it's head together and acquires players in the forthcoming auction in order to bolster it's already existing players and spends time and energy on acquiring players of the likes of Ishant Sharma, Manish Pandey, Shantakumaran Sreesanth, Amit Mishra, Mitchell Marsh, Andre Russell, and Eoin Morgan to name just a few........

Holding their forthcoming camps at the relatively fast bowler friendly environs of a Mohali or then a Dharamshala might seem like a good idea as these venues as pitches might just add that cutting edge to their batsmen's preparedness and make the difference between woeful failure and heady success.......

Wishing the defending IPL champions god speed and greater success in their forthcoming ventures, may you do your home city and the rest of the country proud by paying due attention to matters related to team selection and preparedness as the foundation stone for any successful venture is always founded on the ubiquitous blood, sweat and tears.........
