Warming the Cockles !!!!!!

Team India certainly put on an impressive show and warmed the cockles of many an Indian heart with their sterling performance against arch rivals Pakistan in a super eights stage match in the ongoing t 20 World Cup at Colombo's Premadasa Stadium....

The more than impressive victory was notched up with three overs to spare on the back of yet another epochal batting display by the up and coming Delhi 'wonderboy' Virat Kohli; Kohli's unbeaten knock of 78 came off a paltry 61 deliveries and he was well supported in his endeavours by Virender Sehwag (29 off 21 balls) and Yuvraj Singh (19 not out off 14 balls).......

What was even more gratifying was the fact that the much maligned Indian bowling and fielding came good at long last after the savage mauling at the hands of the men from Down Under; Balaji was the leader of the pack with his impressive haul of 3/22 and hew was well supported in his efforts by Yuvraj Singh who not only knocked over two Pakistani batsmen but also splendidly ran out Yasser Arafat with a flat and accurate direct throw.......

Ravichandran Ashwin, Irfan Pathan and the old warhorse Zaheer Khan were equally impressive though not all of them were amongst the wickets, the fielding was certainly well above the standards that we have come to expect from the men in blue with the younger lot throwing themselves around with gay abandon thereby effecting numerous stops and saving precious runs in the bargain, a clearly overweight and bloated "pied piper of Punjab" Yuvraj Singh was clearly the leader of the pack on the night and had everybody including a certain Sunil Manohar Gavaskar going ga ga over his fielding and bowling exploits.......

While, team India was not severely challenged by the paltry Pakistani total of 128 and more than comfortably overhauled the same with a distance too spare, the scenario against the wounded Springboks from South Africa might well be different as the South Africans have already lost their first two matches in the super eight stages of the toiurnament and will certainly be looking for redemption even though their qualification for the semi final stages is only a mathematical probability........

Team India will certainly have to produce yet another scintillating display to put the South Africans in the shade and certainly have both the wherewithal and motivation to do so; here's wishing the men in blue all the very best for the remainder of the tournament; do both yourselves as well as the country proud by winning the cup that you last held aloft on a balmy South African autumn evening way back in 2007.........
