In an almost exact reprisal of the infamous Asaram Bapu case/incident; a 59 year old self styled "Swamiji" was arrested by the Belgaum (Karnataka) police on the charges of having raped a 47 year old woman within his so called mutt premises located in the Anjaneyanagar area of the city on Saturday afternoon.........
Basava Prabhu Swamiji (the accused) claims to be the head of the local chapter of the Vishwa Lingayat Dharma Parishad Trust that was established some ten or so months ago while the 47 year old victim is originally a native of Hubli city and had formally joined the rank and file of the mutt on that very same fateful (Saturday) morning........
According to the victim she had just finished preparing and serving lunch to the so called Swamiji and two other males when the accused requested her to place an empty plate and tumbler within his room; lo and behold, he surreptitiously entered the room right after the accused, subdued and raped her and then left the room after threatening her with the now stereotyped dire consequences...........
To the so called swamiji's dismay and consternation, the victim proved to be made of sterner stuff and she proceeded to lodge a complaint against her assailant in the company of two other concerned fellow employees at the Malamaruthi police station within two hours or so after the unsavoury incident...........
Taking due cognisance of her complaint, the area police proceeded to arrest the self styled "godman" who originally hails from the Shiraguppi village in Bagalkot District and claims to have taken "deeksha" at the tender age of 22 from the mutt premises at around 6 pm or so on the same (Saturday) evening.........
A case has since been booked against the accused under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and both the assaulter as well as victim have been admitted to the district government hospital for the legally mandated tests and examinations..........
What is it with these so called swamiji's and their penchant to sexually exploit anything and everything in a female form; I for one am completely stumped and flummoxed as far as the reasons for this bizarre predilection is concerned, maybe you could throw some much needed illumination on the same..........
