Malachowski who did his nation proud by snaring the much coveted silver medal in his favoured event at the just concluded Rio Olympics more than willingly consented to auction the same on a Polish website so that he could contribute his mite towards raising the sum required to facilitate the eye surgery of an ailing three (3) year old cancer patient in a New York based medical facility that has the equipment; expertise and wherewithal to treat the afflicted 3 year old who has already lost his sight in one eye owing to the dreaded disease.......
Exhorting his fellow countrymen to step forward and contribute their mite towards alleviating the suffering and agony of this indomitable 3 year old; Malachowski on his facebook page more than candidly admitted that he was moved beyond words and tears when the long suffering mother shared her son's rather sorry and heart rending plight with him through the same social networking medium or avenue.......
" I fought for gold in Rio without taking a backward step and ended up with a silver medal and I am calling upon my countrymen and women to join me in a fight that is far more intrinsically worthwhile than my silver medal as any help rendered to Olek (3 year old cancer patient) would prove to be more precious than the world's largest and most luminous diamond in his case"; Malachowski wrote while launching the online auction of his irreplaceable silver medal........
Online bidders had already posted bids in excess of 8,000 $ (according to Malachowski's last facebook post in this regard) and the said silver medal was expected to snare well over 10,000/-$ according to an administrator of the online auction site on which the Olympic silver medal was being auctioned.......
Malachowski has thrown down the gauntlet and set lofty standards for other athletes and similarly inclined folks to follow; I for one though am awaiting the moment when Prime Minister Modi; wannabe Prime Minister or then perennial Prime Minister in waiting Rahul Gandhi; Arvind Kejriwal; P.V. Sindhu; Sakshi Malik; Sushil Kumar; Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore; Abhinav Bindra; Leander Paes and such other notables follow suit and put up their precious/valued possessionns for similar auctions in their effort to generate funds for a fellow Indian in a similar predicament.......
