The younger they are; the harder they fall........
Following in the wake of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes premature departure owing to a fatal injury caused to the back of his skull by a rapidly rising delivery; here comes the harrowing news of yet another promising young cricketer collapsing on the field and breathing his last before the much desired and sought after medical aid reached him.......
Lukhanya Tsiki; 22 an up and coming speedster who was undergoing fitnesstraining at the Fort Hare Academy run by the former South African pacer Mfuneko Ngam in Eastern Cape Town after running 17 laps on the yo yo (or bleep machine) on which he normally ran twenty laps or more without breaking his stride or collapsing in an unceremonious heap........
Tsiki had just finished running 18 or so laps on the training machine when he decided to take a break from his pre-ordained fitness regimen and resume the same after hydrating himself and resting for a few minutes..........
He had just about pulled off his sweat soaked shirt and imbibed his first sips of his preferred energizer (electrolyte restoring drink) when he abruptly broke into a prolonged bout of coughing clutched at his chest and collapsed in an unceremonious heap before his dismayed and alarmed fellow cricketers on the fateful morning of April 20;2016.........
Realising that all was not well with their mate; five or so fellow cricketers belonging to the afore mentioned academy carried him to the nearest car and rushed him to the nearest available medical facility where the doctors pronounced him brought dead on arrival and surmised that a massive cardiac arrest had caused the untimely demise of this promising cricketer in his prime........
Tsiki is survived by his siblings (two brothers and one sister) Khaya; Cebo and Neliswa who also happen to be budding cricketers who were taking giant strides towards establishing themselves in the highly demanding and exacting South African domestic cricketing scene........
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family members; relatives and friends of this highly promising young cricketer who left for his heavenly abode before marking his presence on planet earth.......
