A 28 year old life long resident of Manmad (60 odd kms from the famed Shirdi shrine in Maharashtra) was taken into custody by the local police on Monday afternoon as he allegedly sexually ravaged and tormented his 52 year old mother for the last fortnight and more..........
According to other family members; the 28 year old accused who could be mentally disturbed did the same a little over seven years ago but that gory incident was hushed up at both family members as well as other supposedly concerned folks behest........
Matters however came to a head on the fateful Monday morning when the 28 year old deviant beat up his mother to within an inch of her life when she spurned his incestuous advances and also gave him a piece of her mind........
Fearing for her life and safety; a conscientious neighbour immediately summoned the area police who firstly admitted the tormented; grievously wounded and battered 52 year old survivor to the district's government hospital and then proceeded to arrest the accused from his friend's abode later that afternoon........
A case under section 376 (2) (rape) has since been booked against the accused and he has been remanded to fourteen days judicial custody by a magistrate who also directed the local police authorities to verify his mental condition and fitness........
I for one am of the opinion that this hedonistic and despicable behaviour must be the norm rather than the exception in many Indian families and such behaviours might also be cloaked and condoned under the convenient and age old garb of upholding the family's honour and prestige..........
