One always thought that matters could not get any worse within the echelons of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA); but if this matter is indeed true; then this certainly takes the entire bakery rather than the proverbial cake...........
Trust the DDCA officials to keep the official grapevine going what with their noteworthy penchant of adding grist to the rumour mills with their mindless and nincompoopish antics that would put many a stand up comedian to shame; only matter being that they seem to have outdone themselves this time around and given the fourth estate rather crunchy titbits to chew upon........
Matters came to a head late Monday morning when a yet unnamed DDCA official (on Monday morning) was officially accused to have stolen packets of fried and roasted peanuts (moongphali) from the dressing room of the visiting Rajasthan cricket team during the course of the recently concluded Ranji Trophy fixture between the two teams at the national capital's iconic Feroze Shah Kotla cricket stadium..........
Rajasthan team manager; Vijendar Yadav who registered an official complaint on behalf of his team with the concerned authorities alleged that one Maqsood Khan who is said to be a minor DDCA official surreptitiously entered the Rajasthan team's dressing room without official sanction and walked out with the packets of peanuts that had been set aside for the team members during the first session of play on Monday morning..........
Maqsood who is said to be a long standing DDCA official and visiting team nets (practice sessions) co-ordinator only compounded matters further by getting into an exceedingly ugly and fractious fracas/scuffle with Manoj Choudhary; the DDCA's anti corruption official who was investigating the imbroglio on behalf of the DDCA on Tuesday evening..........
Infact; matters got so ugly and unruly that the Delhi police had to be summoned to sort out matters and the issue was well and truly sorted out late on Tuesday night after Khan tendered an unconditional apology to both Choudhary as well as the visiting Rajasthan cricket team profusely apologising for and expressing heartfelt regret at his rather unsavoury and inexplicable behaviour...........
Confirming the fact that a written complaint was indeed filed on behalf of the visiting Rajasthan team by him (Yadav) in accordance with the BCCI guidelines on corruption related issues; Yadav said that he was forced to do so as an unauthorised person had transgressed into the hallowed and highly restricted precincts of the visiting team's dressing room without sanction or permission and hence violated the BCCI guidelines pertaining to highly vexatious and contentious corruption related matters that have ruled the roost off late.........
Well; this crisis may have been tided over with the unconditional apology and public display of contriteness made by the now infamous Maqsood Khan; but one wonders whether the high and mighty within the BCCI ranks will consider it worth their while to rein in the cantakerous DDCA officials who seem well on their way towards becoming a law unto themselves........
