ON VISHAL BHARADWAJ AND "HAIDER".........

Dear Mr. Vishal Bharadwaj:
Kudos for creating a masterpiece called/titled "Haider" that has not only brought Kashmir back to the centre stage or in the national limelight but also made every person in the audience examine his/her motives/choices as a human being and rekindled the almost extinct emotions of empathy and sympathy............
One was always aware of the fact that Tabu is the finest actress of her generation and Kay Kay Menon is arguably one of the finest actors that our country can boast of; but you have a gone a mile further and once again underlined or proved the fact that a highly underrated and undervalued Shahid Kapoor is not only the finest male actor of his age bracket/group but also given him a fresh lease of life as an actor.........
Setting or placing Shakespeare in a completely Indian milieu is no mean feat; but you have not only done that but recreated the immortal bard in a mafia centric; gangster related and terrorism ravaged background is certainly the work of a genius who needs to be both applauded as well as acknowledged as perhaps the finest film maker of the Shakespearan genre.........
Your greatest triumph lies in the fact that you not only made a cynic like me shed copious tears while watching/seeing your tour de force but also made me that much more determined to continue with my avowed goal of making a difference no matter however miniscule thereby ensuring that we leave behind a far better and far more congenial world than the one we inherited.........
"The father of the nation"; Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi once famously remarked that "an eye for an eye will only end up making the whole world blind" and you have not only gone ahead and proved the immortal adage but also taught all Indians the futility and senselessness of seeking revenge the sole objective or aim of your life a la your male protagonist as the end result of this mindless pursuit could only be death, desolation, loss; solitude and a feeling of all pervasive desperation and despair that can not only overwhelm but also bury you six feet under.........
Thanks once again for rekindling long buried memories about two of my all time favourite works/novels by Indian authors Basharat Peer's "Curfewed Night as well as novel titled "No Guns at My Son's Funeral" whose author's name I cannot recollect offhand but also spoke about the utter futility and hopelessness of picking up the gun in an effort to avenge a perceived slight or wrong as the same can only result in the creation of your own private hell in which you will burn for eternity.........
Do keep up the good work and keep creating many more such masterpieces that keep churning our innards and make us walk that extra mile to leave our footprints on the indelible sands of time..........
Your fan and well wisher;
Sundeep Chopra..........
