HOME ADVANTAGE: WHATEVER'S THAT??????

Whatever happened to the stereotypical and age old "home advantage" and where on earth is the grassy pitch that will send the home (English) bowlers into raptures; former English captains and stalwarts Sir Ian Botham and David Gower lament..........
Messrs Dhoni and company were in for a pleasant and welcome surprise when they were confronted by a Trent Bridge pitch that was almost bereft of all grass apart from a cursory sprinkling of the same and hence proceeded to make the best of the almost sub continental pitch by winning the toss and notching up a creditable total of 259/4 at the draw of stumps at the end of the first day of the ongoing five test series..........
Murali Vijay who manfully battled the wiles of the English bowlers for a little over six and a half hours emerged as team India's unsung hero and ended up notching his first ever century outside the sub continent and fourth of his nascent test career while captain Dhoni was providing him with admirable support; remaining unbeaten with a fifty plus score to his credit.........
Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli fell to the age old predilection of not moving one's feet well enough to account for the prodigious swing that is customary in English conditions while Pujara fell into the trap set for him by Messrs Cook and Anderson duly obliging them by scooping a slower ball that hung on to the pitch that instant longer into the waiting mitts of an over eager Ian Bell who made no mistake in snapping up the gilt edged opportunity............
Ajinkya Rahane engineered his own demise after spending an inordinately long time at the crease for seemingly meagre returns by swivelling across a little to early in an effort to pull the ball towards square leg and his sorry attempt at the same only ended up with the ball in the gleeful mitts of a gully fielder who could scarcely believe his luck.............
Team India certainly seem to have their noses ahead thanks to the century plus partnership notched up by Messrs Dhoni and Vijay and should be able to pile up a 400 plus total if the afore mentioned duo weather the storm that should be coming their way during the first hour or so on the second morning of the test match as the home team's bowlers would be refreshed and raring to go after a night's rest........
Here's looking forward to a rampaging and resurgent team India..........
