One really wonders whether the time is nigh for Akhilesh Yadav (incumbent Uttar Pradesh chief minister) to hang up his boots and disappear into the yawning political void or oblivion what with girls and women being raped with growing impunity in his state and him doing precious little to prevent the same from happening.........
In the latest gruesome incident hitting the headlines, a 22 year old woman was allegedly gang raped by at least 10-15 men, forced to consume copious amounts of acid and finally strangulated or asphyxiated to death in Bareilly District's Baheri area, local police sources confirmed early Monday morning..........
According to the very same police sources, the young woman's body was recovered or found in a field in Aithpura village late on Saturday evening with the face being callously and meticulously mutilated by the attackers in an effort to obscure her identity.........
A post mortem that was carried out on the mortal remains of the 22 year old woman at the district government hospital conclusively established or proved the fact that she was firstly gang raped, then forced to consume copious amounts of acid as the same was discovered in her stomach and finally strangulated so that she could not disclose the identity or then should I say identities of her numerous tormentors.........
According to the doctors who carried out the post mortem of the victim, acid and petrol was poured on her face in an effort to obscure or conceal her identity for good.........
"There is a more than fair chance of the victim having been a resident of the neighbouring state of Uttarakhand and hence two teams have been despatched to Uttarakhand in an effort to establish the antecedents of the hapless victim", a senior police official said.........
He also pointed out the fact that the police was concentrating on several angles or rather probing several angles though initial speculation and conjecture point towards the honour killing or flesh trade angles.........
One is waiting to see the reaction of the beleaguered Akhilesh Yadav in this case, will he once again shoot the messenger, i.e. berate the media for sensationalising every rape case that occurs in his state or finally put his money where his mouth is and initiate expeditious and sagacious measures that help to arrest this disturbing and gut wrenching trend......
