Staying in the limelight and being controversy's favourite child is certainly a winning proposition??? don't believe me, then ask a certain Arvind Kejriwal for his esteemed opinion on this one.......
Yes you did certainly hear it right, Arvind Kejriwal's magnum opus; "SWARAJ" has sold more than 1.5 lakh copies since he demitted his chief ministerial office after a rather stormy and tumultuous 49 day period at the helm of affairs in the national capital.......
According to a prominent book seller, the book started selling like the proverbial hot cake ever since he assumed the reins of power on December 28, 2013, but the sales of the book entered the stratosphere and have exceeded the 1.5 lakh mark after he gave up the reins of power on a matter of principle........
A book that sells more than 10,000 copies within India is ranked as a "bestseller" and "Swaraj' has exceeded this figure by as much as 15 times or so, the book seller goes on to add......
According to yet another eminent book seller, "the best pointer or indicator of a book's popularity is the number of copies of the book being sold by pavement hawkers and roadside hawkers; the pavement book sellers on the bustling streets of Connaught Place have been displaying this book more than prominently and the same is the hottest selling commodity in the national capital's numerous book stalls of all sizes and hues".......
An enterprising pavement book seller who answers to the name of Vikas Kumar candidly admits the fact that he and hundreds of his fellow book sellers have been receiving hundreds of queries about this particular book.........
" We don't sell this book for anything less than Rs. 150 per copy and our regular as well as new customers are picking up copies of this book as soon as we ,manage to procure a few of the same and that too without haggling or asking for discounts as they do all the time", he signs off......
"Swaraj" is vying for equal if not more attention with the best sellers authored by Amish Tripathi and Chetan Bhagat in the eternally popular Sunday book market that makes it's presence felt on the bustling Daryaganj's footpaths and we are prominently displaying dozens of copies of this one amongst our wares".........
"What is even more encouraging or heartening is the fact that the copies of this book authored by Arvind Kejriwal are selling much faster than all the other best sellers by various Indian authors, in fact, I would venture as far as saying that we are finding it difficult to satisfy all our customers and even have even resorted to printing the book by ourselves and selling each "inferior" copy for as much as Rs.100/-" yet another book seller at the bustling Daryaganj book market goes on to say........
According to the publishers Harper Collins national Sales Manager Sanjay Mahale; "this best seller is so affordable and pocket friendly on account of the fact that the author (Arvind Kejriwal) did not accept/take any royalty for the book as he wanted the same to be extremely affordable and also wanted his "vision" for a new India to be shared by as many Indians as possible........
"We published the first edition of the book on September 27,2012 and the sales for the year subsequent to it's release were quiet encouraging, we released yet another updated edition some six months back or so and have off loaded more than 30,000 copies of the English version and a little more than 60,000 copies of the Hindi version of the same book in a six month period or so"..........
"The total sales of the book over the last 18 months or so have exceeded the 1.75 lakh figure thereby making it one of the largest sellers over the last 5 years or so". Mahale signs off......
Love him or hate him, but there certainly is no ignoring him (Arvind Kejriwal) in his various avatars, whether as a social crusader, pioneering politician, controversial chief minister or then as a best selling author worth his salt
