TIME FOR A RETHINK??????

The horror definitely seems unending and something out of a bad dream for the national capital's young girls and women......

In the latest instance of sexual exploitation and horror in the national capital, a 16 year old girl was first enticed away from her safe haven, kept hostage in a house not too far away from hers and repeatedly raped over a four day period by her assailant and tormentor.......

The victim a class VII student of a Delhi municipality school and a resident of the east Delhi slum cluster of Kalyanpuri was lured away from her surroundings by 24 year old Chandan, her neighbour and sometime friend.......

Chandan managed to lure her away from her humble abode on the pretext of showing her a Hindi film, proceeded to restrict or then confine her to his friend's house for four days and satisfy his convoluted carnal pleasures by repeatedly forcing himself on the hapless and defenceless girl........

The girl's parents had taken recourse to due process of law and even filed a missing complaint with the local police station on June 21 clearly stating that their daughter had been missing for well over a day now.....

Launching a search and rescue operation without any further ado, the local cops managed to trace the girl's where about's to Chandan's friend Pramod's residence which happened to be located a few kilometres away from where both Chandan as well as the victim lived or resided......

The girl broke down and apprised both the local police officials as well as her parents of the sordid fact that Chandan had not only repeatedly forced himself on her, but also made a furtive attempt to palm her off to a brothel in the national capital's red light area.......

Chandan and his accomplice or comrade in arms Pramod were nabbed by the local police from Chandan's residence late on Monday night and since been remanded to judicial custody, cases have been booked against the two of them under all applicable and relevant sections of the Indian penal code.....

Counsellors and such notable others from a local NGO are counselling the victim and making a noble effort towards helping her cope with the sense of trauma, shame and ignominy that the brutal assault on her has subjected her too.......

Time to take a long, hard and dispassionate look at the rapidly deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital especially when it comes to the safety and security of women and make the Delhi Police Commissioner answerable to a popularly elected chief minister rather than the lieutenant governor and home ministry as is the present practice methinks, what do you think??????
