YET ANOTHER CONTRIVED RESULT............

Kudos to the Mumbai Indians for adding that missing piece of silverware to their trophy cabinet and winning a final that seldom rose above the mediocre and mundane; the final never ever got off the ground and was a huge yawn feast from beginning to end.........

The sluggish pitch contributed to this yawn fest in no small measure as batsman after batsman failed to get the ball of the square with the notable exceptions of Messrs Pollard and Dhoni who gave one the impression that they were batting on a different surface altogether........

For a change the bowlers had a field day with Messrs Bravo, Malinga, Johnson and Harbhajan sending the spectators into raptures of delight with their deadly deliveries that brooked no answer from the batsmen who looked like cats on a high tin roof........

Somewhere, somehow, the abject capitulation of the much vaunted CSK batsmen and their abject failure to make a fist of what was a modest total at best do raise a few suspicions about the end result being contrived and decided upon even before the match got underway..........

Otherwise what explains the failure of any and every CSK batsman other than the skipper M.S. Dhoni showing the wherewithal, skill and determination to spend some time on the pitch, get used to it's demeanour and variations in both bounce as well as pace nad last but not the least simply show the pluck and determination to support Dhoni in his yeoman's effort aimed at overhauling the opposition's total.........

And all this when erstwhile BCCI president gave a clarion call for a thorough clean up of the augean BCCI stables and a thorough probe into the possibility of the entire gamut of matches played during the course of the sixth edition of the IPL by a central agency like the CBI......

I for one do not believe in such happy coincidences and have played and covered enough cricket to understand and believe that the capitulation by the CSK batsmen was just one more of those things and nothing more than a blip on the horizon.......

Yes, a few good balls were bowled by the bowlers and the two paced pitch did play it's role in defeating the futile attempts of the batsmen to hit their way out of trouble but the million dollar question is whether these reasons are enough to explain away the ultimate outcome of what was touted to be a titanic struggle otherwise........

A thorough, independent and impassioned probe into the entire gamut of IPL season 6 is certainly the crying need of the hour; but will a gentleman (?) who stands thoroughly discredited both in the eyes of the cricketing fraternity and the rest of the world order such a probe that has the underlying possibility of implicating him.........

Well your guess on that one is certainly as good as mine........
