THE TEST OF MY LIFE........

Just put down my copy of Yuvraj Singh's "the test of my life" and must confess that I feel honoured, privileged, humbled, unshackled and inspired by the same.......

At best the biography is about hope, determination and the inherent courage to face and overcome seemingly insurmountable odds, the book goads, coerces and inspires you to reach deep within yourself and surmount the very last barrier or then as one Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar says: "this book is nothing else other than pure inspiration".......

The book traces Yuvraj's journey from the backwaters of Chandigarh to the international stage through the under 19 world cup, has candid confessions about how the pied piper of Punjab grew to love, admire, respect and hate, detest and abhor his dictatorial and stenoritarian father in equal measure, but is also human enough to admit that Yuvraj wouldn't have got there without his Hitlerian father......

It makes you break out in uncontrollable mirth, break out into unabashed and heart rending sobs, it forces you to sit back and examine your motives, standing and value system as a human being, asks whether or not you have initiated measures to be the harbinger of change that you want to see in this world and last but not the least makes you want to reach out to others.......

"The test of my life" lays threadbare the initial reaction of disbelief, denial, shock, horror, and last but not the least; why me? of a man who had annexed the World Cup after a 28 year long interval, the trials, tribulations, pain and anguish a world beater went through when he discovered that he was afflicted with the big "C" (cancer) and only had a period of six months left in this life if he did not begin his chemotherapy cycles forthwith........

This book is also a candid admission of the fact that Yuvraj Singh a source of inspiration was reduced to a shadow of the human being that he is when he was informed about the tumour that was spreading it's tentacles as well as growing roots within his lung and heart region and how his mother was not only a pillar of strength and support but the very reason why Yuvi decided to battle the big "C'' with a renewed sense of hope and optimism.......

Like Yuvraj goes on to say during the course of his narration, "this book is not about me; it is the story of a brave and resolute mother. A mother who has given me birth twice. Someone said rightly, God cannot be everywhere so he made mothers. I can tell you I saw that." a moving tribute of a son to the woman who is an immovable and respected object in his life........

The above mentioned tribute and many more such telling and deeply moving anecdotes reduced me a 43 year old supposedly worldly wise and cynical man to a blubbering mass of tears and mutual recrimination.....I cannot say with any degree of certainty that the same may be you reaction on reading the same, but do yourself a favour and read the same.......

Published worldwide by Random House Publishers, this 189 page tale of sacrifice and triumph is priced at a modest rupees 399, you can get the very same at a hefty 25 to 30% discount on the cover price if you order the same through either flipkart, homeshop 18, infibeam or others of their ilk........

So what are you waiting for, lay your hands on your very own copy at the earliest, be inspired and inspire others in turn.......
