GAYLE STORM ENGULFS INDIA......

Christopher Henry Gayle thy name is hallowed, blessed and synonymous with entertainment, gaiety and joie de vivre........

The entertainment and gaiety never stops whenever a Gayle storm besieges the IT hub of Bengaluru and man oh man did a Gayle storm hit Bengaluru or what last night.....

It not only tore the hapless Pune Warriors India bowling attack asunder but also had the commentators reaching for thesaurus's in an effort to conjure up superlatives to match the scintillating stroke play on display for the fortunate millions to purview......

Mr. Gayle started off his innings is his usual languid, laid back and oh so relaxed giving away no signs whatsoever of the typhoon that was soon set to engulf the picturesque M. Chinnaswamy stadium and its immediate environs.......

Lo and behold, the stadium and the thousands who had braved the elements in order to throng the stadium found themselves enveloped in a Gayle storm that not only swept the stadium but the hapless opposition bowlers off their hustings.......

Every corner of this hallowed stadium was peppered with boundaries and over boundaries with the wide arc between cover point and wide midwicket being favoured more than most, the spectators went into uncontrolled raptures of delight while the bowlers on the other side were soon seeking a place to hide.......

Savage pulls, effortless straight drives, hoiks over square leg, lofted cover drives, back cuts, square cuts, late cuts, flicks, deft leg glances and last but not the least a majestic straight drive that travelled the mammoth distance of 119 metres; this superlative knock had all this and more........

Reducing this mesmerising knock to sheer facts and figures would be an effrontery and travesty of justice, but then we are a cricketing nation obsessed with statistics so her goes:

# an unbeaten 175 off 66 balls is the highest ever recorded score in T20 internationals till date.....

# the same also happens to be the highest individual score recorded in the shortest form of the game.....

# first hundred runs scored of just a measly 30 balls; this happens to be the fastest ever century recorded across all forms of this glorious game.......

# eclipsed the half century mark (scored 50 runs) of a measly 17 balls thereby equalling Kings XI Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist's feat.......

# notched up the rare and unparalleled distinction of recording a century in sixes alone, (17 sixes), making him the first ever cricketer in the history of the game to record this unique feat......

# played an instrumental role in his side namely the Royal Challengers Bangalore recording a staggering/monumental total of 263/5; the highest ever recorded total in all T20 matches played till date.......

One must certainly consider oneself blessed and fortunate enough to have the privilege of witnessing such a devastating, epochal, savage, magnificent, breath taking and spectacular innings; such innings only come once in a lifetime if not once in a century so do hang on to the dear memories for as long as they last......

Christopher Henry Gayle thank you for the raptures of delight and fond memories that will surely accompany me to my final resting place, they will also find pride of place when I sit down and recount my fond memories and recollections of the best ever innings that I have been privileged to witness; once again thank you for the paroxsyms of untold delight and plethora of memories that will last me through this lifetime and a few more besides.......
