TO WHOMSOEVER IT MAY CONCERN,
The chilling, heart rending and conscience wracking narration of events that befell the 23 brave heart Nirbhaya and her male companion on the fateful night of December 16, 2012 should certainly make all of us question our values and ideals, awaken our dormant and dead consciences and above all aspire to be human beings in the truest sense of the term......
The very fact that an apathetic and seemly uncaring and indifferent populace let the victim and her male friend lie around on the capital's streets for more than two hours fending for themselves and making feeble efforts to awaken the dead conscience of a supposedly good samaritan who would come to their aid and provide them with much needed succour in their hour of untold agony and deep distress........
"With you for you always" is the Delhi police's reigning dictum and pray what did this police force which is supposed to be there for the citizen do when they reached the spot where the brave heart and her male friend were lying in a dishevelled and profusely bleeding state; squabbled amongst themselves for the best part of thirty minutes and more in order to establish the jurisdiction of the police station in whose territory this heinous crime fell........
Raising slogans and riling against the system is the easiest and simplest of things to do, but pray, tarry for a moment and examine your own motives and consciences, do people who conveniently prefer to look the other way whenever they see a crime being committed in full public view or make good their escape whenever they see the hapless victim of an accident writhing on the road in untold agony have any right whatsoever to rave and rant against a seemingly indifferent and apathetic system........
What gives me the right to question peoples' motives and question their actions did I just hear someone say; well the fact of the matter is that I vehemently hate talking about myself and am only talking about myself because I need to justify my stance on this matter; yours truly has been asked to pack his bags and leave by the managements of three different companies for this very simple reason that he cared and single handedly took up cudgels on behalf of people who he thought were being shamelessly exploited by the owners of these very same companies for their monetary benefit..........
The second fact or reason that gives me the right to question other peoples motives and actions is the fact that both my wife and me have picked up grievously wounded animals who have fallen prey to the avarices of indifferent drivers on more occasions than we care to remember and tended to them on our own till the Blue Cross authorities came and took them away in their mobile medicare units...........
People who live in glass houses should not throw stones is an age old dictum and while I hold no brief whatsoever for an unresponsive government; I firmly believe in what the Bible says about a person who has committed no sin whatsoever casting the first stone on another person deemed to be an even bigger sinner, so do pause, tarry a moment and make an unwavering commitment to both yourself, the nation as a whole and society as we have come to know it about being the best possible human being in the face of seemingly indomitable odds before you begin raving and ranting against the mindless antics of a system that is on it's last legs...........
