SHAME IN SOPORE.........

Police personnel around our motherland seem well on their way to becoming a law unto themselves thanks to the patronage of their political benefactors and the common man cowering before their brutality and might; thereby failing to register complaints against them, after all who can investigate the very one's who are entrusted with the job of protecting the common man and investigating crimes against him.........
In the latest case of unwarranted and unprovoked police brutality reported from Kashmir's Sopore town, a 25 year old youth was unceremoniously picked up by the local police forces on suspicion of being involved in a theft case beaten black and blue, subjected to third degree torture and subsequently dumped in a government hospital in a clandestine manner when things threatened to get out of hand.......
Saddam Khan a 25 year old resident of a nondescript village in Kashmir's Sopore area was picked up by the local cops from just outside his humble abode on suspicion of being involved in a theft reported from his village, bundled off to the local police station without informing his family or well wishers, beaten black and blue, subjected to inhuman forms of brutality and violence and finally literally thrown into the nearest government hospital when he lost consciousness and showed signs of succumbing to the "special" treatment meted out to him.......
This brutal, heart rending and simply macabre incident came to light only a couple of days ago when a resident of the same village happened upon Saddam in the government hospital and duly informed his family members of his pathetic and dismal state........
His hapless family members immediately made a beeline towards the said hospital and were aghast to see him with marks and injuries all over his body (especially the soles of his feet), unconscious and whimpering incoherently in a state of delirium........
Thankfully, he regained consciousness after a short while and was coherent and stable enough to inform his family members about his travails and experiences after being accosted, thrown into a police lock up, beaten black and blue and then being incarcerated in the hospital and all this without any opportunity whatsoever of proving his innocence or tendering his version of events.......
As for his grieving, sorrowful and bewildered family they are thankful of the fact that their son is at least alive to tell the tale and wondering whether they will ever get the much desired though seemingly elusive justice as Saddam is oblivious to the identity of his tormentors as he was blind folded and then beaten up.......
The local superintendent of police has however condescended to register a case against persons unknown and mouthed the usual banalities and homilies about bringing the culprits to book at the earliest; cold crumbs of comfort did I hear someone say........
What boggles the mind and torments the soul is the indisputable fact that numerous such cases of police brutality and callous torture are simply swept under the carpet without as much as a by your leave; such cases are conveniently closed citing a lack of certifiable and credible evidence therefore enabling such rogue elements within the police forces to unleash their reign of terror on seeming innocents inherently incapable of defending themselves.......
And to think that we rendered a hue and cry of herculean proportions and cried ourselves hoarse when eminent lawyer and Aam Aadmi party founding member Prashant Bhushan expressed his sentiments about holding a referendum pertaining to such incidents of human rights abuses perpetrated by either the army or other brutes in uniform........

GETTING YOUNGER BY THE DAY..........

The family and well wishers of the nine year old girl who was brutally assaulted on her way back from school on Saturday last must have experienced some sense of solace with the Bangalore police announcing the arrest and apprehending of the perpetrator/main accused........
Yes, you heard it right, the Bangalore police personnel have arrested a 13 year old school drop out for having committed the heinous crime of raping and assaulting a nine year old school girl......
This crime which had occurred in the sprawling metropolises Begur area had sent shock waves down the collective spines of it's residents and also led to anger and resentment on the streets of Bengaluru.........
According to the police personnel who arrested the accused and brought him to book, this is the first recorded instance of a 13 year old being arrested/apprehended on the grave charges of raping and sexually assaulting a girl much younger than him in the entire state of Karnataka.......
To refresh everybody';s memory and grey cells, this dastardly incident took place when the victim was making her way back to her humble abode after attending school on Saturday afternoon on a desolate and mostly deserted road; according to the police's version of events, the accused first began stalking the victim, waited for the right opportunity and subdued her by draping a towel around her head and neck........
After having achieved success in his mission of subduing her, he then proceeded to lead her to an under construction building where he proceeded to force himself upon her and also inflict minor injuries on her in the attempt to force himself upon her........
He made himself scarce after having achieved his heinous objective and the victim somehow managed to wend her way back to her humble abode and narrated her tale of woe to her aghast grandmother who in turn proceeded to inform her parents about this unsavoury episode and the parents in turn filed the police complaint which ultimately led to the accused's arrest on Wednesday........
The Bengaluru police personnel initially began their investigation into the crime believing that an adult had perpetrated this diabolic crime, but soon realised the error of their hypothesis when the victim apprised them of the fact that her assailant was none other than a minor.........
Repeated visits to the scene of the crime led to the unearthing and discovery of vital clues including the footwear of the accused, medical tests carried out on the 13 year old have established the fact that he indeed carried out the act beyond all reasonable doubt and the accused has been confined to a juvenile remand home as is the norm in all such cases........
Meanwhile, the victim is well on the way to recovery from her ordeal in a private hospital according to family sources..........
One wonders what the bleeding hearts and self styled protectors of human rights have to say about this latest and despicable incident of a minor committing a sexual offence for the umpteenth time.......

UTTER CALLOUSNESS AND CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE........

One wonders if matters can get any worse for the much abused and vilified girl child what with staff members of government hospitals in the national capital apportioning unto themselves the right to dispose of the bodies of newly born baby girls (infants) in any manner they deem fit.......
Things came to a head when the mortal remains of a baby girl which should have rightfully been preserved in the mortuary of the Maata Chanan Devi Hospital were instead found unceremoniously dumped in a bio-waste truck stationed just outside it's main gate on Tuesday morning.......
According to sources close to the bereaved family as well as police sources, the now deceased infant was born on Sunday morning at the Khanna Nursing Home and was subsequently brought by the hapless parents to the above mentioned hospital when her health abruptly started deteriorating on Sunday evening.......
Despite the best efforts of the doctors stationed within the Delhi government hospital, the girl child passed away at around 2 a.m. on Monday morning and the harrowing parents were asked to collect the mortal remains of their child after 9 am on the same morning from the hospital's morgue......
To the parent's consternation and dismay, the morgue staff outrightly denied having received the body of the infant when the parents turned up to claim the same a little after 9 am and crudely asked the deeply perturbed parents to look for the body of their child elsewhere.......
The hapless and sorrowing parents searched high and low through the length and breadth of the sprawling hospital premises but could not retrieve their deceased child's remains from any obscure place within the hospital premises before happening upon the waste disposal truck stationed outside the hospital's main gate......
A passerby brought to their notice the dismal fact that he had spotted the body of a child lying atop a waste heap in the truck and it was then that the distraught parents found and claimed the lifeless body as their very own moments before the truck that had finished receiving it's due load of bio waste from the hospital was about to proceed with the same.......
Alleging utter callousness and criminal negligence on the part of the hospital authorities the parents of the infants disclosed that they had dished out an amount of Rs. 1,500/- and paid the same to a morgue attendant for the express purpose of keeping the body safe until the family members came to claim the same........
"Our heavenly child breathed her last at around 2 am on Monday morning and we duly paid the amount demanded by the mortuary staff to preserve her body without any prevarication and still discovered her body lying atop a heap of hazardous wastes in a bio-waste truck a grieving relative of the infant pointed out"........
On their part the Delhi police authorities have thus far not launched a case against the accused morgue staff ,members but instead launched a detaiIed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the child's body within a bio-disposal truck.........
"We have duly obtained the CCTV footage of operations within the hospital between/for the said period and are minutely examining the same to establish the identity of the culprit beyond all reasonable doubt", police sources said.......
And so the indifference, apathy, cruelty and criminal negligence continues unabated despite a new and supposedly responsive government having assumed the reins of power in the national capital a short while back.......

Carnage in Gurgaon Call Centre!!

They always told me that call centres were dens of vice and debauchery, but I for reasons best known to myself and me alone steadfastly refused to believe them, but the recent events in a Gurgaon based call centre have all but convinced me about falling in line.......
A 30 year old female call centre executive was defiled, debauched and sexually assaulted by a group of her so called colleagues, friends and confidantes within the supposedly safe and sterile confines of a Gurgaon based call centre in the wee hours of Monday morning.........
Taking cognisance of a rape complaint filed by the victim (a resident of a working women's hostel in the national capital's R.K. Puram area), the Delhi police duly registered a "zero" FIR against the alleged culprits and subsequently transferred the case to their counterparts in Gurgaon as the same falls within their jurisdiction.......
The victim had brought to the notice of the concerned police officials the traumatic and seemingly tragic fact of having been assailed, cornered, confined and finally brutally assaulted by a gaggle of her male colleagues within the office premises of the late hours of Sunday night/wee hours of Monday morning.......
According to the investigating officer (Gurgaon police) cases have been registered against eight fellow male employees; and in what is a difference from the norm in such cases, the Gurgaon police officials have also booked cases against three female employees of the said call centre for the roles discharged by them in the facilitation and commitment of this dastardly crime.......
All that the police officials have managed to do in the last 24 hours or so is to identify two of the accused as Pawan and Rahul but is yet to make any arrests in the case thus far.......
Gurgaon police officials also pointed out the fact that lookout notices have been posted at neighbouring airports and railway stations while police officials of four neighbouring states have also been asked to keep an eye out for the absconding rapists and offenders........
They also said that they were actively considering/contemplating the option of booking cases against the owners and top management of the call centre for their woeful failure to provide a safe, secure and seemingly impregnable working environment/atmosphere/premises for their female employees.........
Women are seemingly unsafe in the confines of their homes and dwellings, workplaces, streets, theatres, malls, hospitals, places of worship, railway stations, bus stands, cars, autos, taxis and so and so forth; one indeed wonders if there is any safe and secure place left for them under the sun that they can claim as their own??????

A young, naive and trusting 19 year old young woman suffered over 80% burns after allegedly being set alight by her murderous in-laws in Irba village (about 15 kms away from Ranchi) on Saturday........

The grievously injured victim had supposedly committed the cardinal and unpardonable sin of eloping with and marrying the son of the avenging duo late last year and hence was set alight by them in the wee hours of Saturday morning when she had gone to implore them to let bygones be bygones and accept both her and their "errant" son lock stock and barrel.....

In her statement to the local police personnel the young woman disclosed the fact that she had gotten married to one Asfaq Ansari (23) in November last and was perturbed by his nocturnal tendency of doling out one inane excuse after the other every time she brought up the rather disruptive issue of meeting his parents and seeking their blessings......

She somehow managed to summon up the courage and made her way to her husband's parent's abode in Irba in the late hours of Friday night/wee hours of Saturday morning but to her utter consternation, shock and dismay she found her "lawfully wedded husband" taking issue with her parents and callously disowning her........

What brought matters to a head for the now utterly flummoxed and distressed 19 year old woman was the inalienable fact that her husband was also a more than willing accomplice in the heinous and barbaric act of beating her within an inch of her life along with his parents and sister, dousing her with kerosene and setting her alight without batting an eyelid as he had supposedly had his fill of her and did not want to be saddled with the excess baggage any longer........

Villagers and fellow neighbours made a beeline towards the said house on hearing her heart rending cries of anguish and suffering, poured water on her and doused the flames before rushing her to a neighbouring government hospital where her condition is slated or listed as highly critical as she has suffered more than 80% burns in the "human inferno"........

On their part, the local police personnel have lodged cases against the now absconding perpetrators under section 307 (attempt to murder) and 498 A (subjecting a married woman to untold cruelty and barbarism) and launched a manhunt to apprehend the monsters at the earliest and bring them to book.......

LOVE OH LOVE!!!!! WHAT UNTOLD CRIMES, ATROCITIES AND BRUTALITIES ARE COMMITTED IN THY FAIR AND UNBLEMISHED NAME.......

YET ANOTHER FEATHER.........

The fledgling Aam Aadmi Party that seems to have captured the attention of the urban middle classes within the country in an unprecedented manner, added yet another feather to it's already burgeoning cap when Captain Gopinath (the pioneer of the low cost Airline) formally joined the party in Bengaluru on Friday........


Captain Gopinath is the second high profile corporate person to latch onto the Aam Aadmi Party bandwagon after former Infosys Board Member V. Balakrishnan and may well be the party's candidate for a Lok Sabha seat from Bengaluru if the buzz surrounding his admittance into the party is to be believed.......

Candidly admitting that he was deeply enamoured and impressed by the crusade against corruption and graft; Captain Gopinath confessed that he was rivetted by the manner in which Shri Anna Hazare and company galvanised the entire nation and led it to take up cudgels against the government and powers that be........

"I have actively participated in the movement since the heady and introspective days of Anna's first fast against the twin menaces of corruption and graft and have only reaffirmed and solemnised my commitment towards clean and accountable public life and practices", he went on to say........

He also drew attention to the fact that he had already tested the political waters by contesting the general elections from the Bangalore South seat as an independent in 2009, but had failed to draw the attention of the electorate and common man in a manner guaranteed to ensure his victory at the hustings.......

"Corruption is one of the fundamental issues confronting this great country: Anna's movement galvanised hopes and aspirations of putting paid to this corrupt and self serving system and Kejriwal's AAP is transforming that hope and aspirations into concrete action on the ground", he went on to add.......

Exhorting other corporate giants and committed people to come forward and join this transformatory and truly historic movement, Captain Gopinath confessed that his only intention behind joining the party was to serve the people of Bengaluru in particular and the country selflessly and conscientiously in any matter deemed fit by the executive board of the Aam Aadmi Party.........

"This is the only party committed to the cause of espousing, highlighting and fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the long suffering common man and hence every right minded individual who wants to uproot this highly corrupt and self serving system from it's very roots should come forward and join forces with the Aam Aadmi party", he concluded.........

Here's wishing the Aam Aadmi party many more such successes and god speed in it's holy crusade against corruption, graft and all other things unholy within this burgeoning polity and glorious motherland.......

POLICING KOLKATA ISHTYLE.........

West Bengal chief minister and enfant terrible Mamata Banerjee seems to be a law unto herself, what with her penchant for branding every controversy and unsavoury incident involving her party and government a Communist or then Maoist conspiracy to defame and malign her government and every citizen who summons the courage to question her government's policies and programmes a Maoist if not Maoist sympathiser........


She rode into Writers' Building on the back of tall promises to usher in an era of "Poribartan" (drastic change) and complete disconnect from the so called "Stalinist " rule of the Communists, but, the more things supposedly change, the more they remain the same and Mamata certainly seems to be beating the Communists hollow at the "suppression" game.....

In the latest incident of police brutality, subservience to the chief minister and utter disdain for the fourth estate (press and media), three local journalists were mercilessly caned by the police forces when there was an unruly scramble for space during a programme graced by both the West Bengal Governor as well as the chief minister on Thursday........

The above mentioned function or programme was hastily organised within the compound of the newly relocated state secretariat and the space allocated to the members of the fourth estate to cover the release the State Government's first ever "Administrative Calendar" was so confined and claustrophobic that the photo journalists, pen pushers and men in khakhi were soon jostling each other for some much desired elbow room.......

In fact, so narrow, confined and congested was the area that the photo journalists and other photographers were soon pushed beyond the confines of the area allocated to them and infringing on the space appropriated by the police and other para military forces who were assigned the duty of providing security to the politicians and other luminairies on the dais........

In their misplaced zeal to prove their undying and unswerving loyalty to their political masters the policemen who had gathered there in strength soon began raining batons and lathis on the journalists gathered there irrespective of sex, age and physical infirmities.........

On being asked why the policemen on duty were pushing, shoving and crudely manhandling them; the Assistant Commissioner's pyrrhic and gloating reply or rejoinder was "because we have the right and political mandate to do so".......

Journalists who took offence and umbrage at the pompous remark of the Assistant Commissioner and registered their protest by raising slogans against him soon found themselves at the wrong end of the lathis and batons and being caned and beaten up without as much as a by your leave by the goons and goondas in police uniforms.......

Three journalists including a reporter from the vernacular daily "Bartamaan" and the lensman of the Bangladesh based publication "Pratham Aalo" were grievously injured in the carnage and utter mayhem and had to be rushed to a nearby corporate hospital.........

The carnage and utter mayhem only came to an end when a few journalists managed to draw the governors' attention to the brutality and his secretary and Man Friday began admonishing the police forces for their boorish and bombastic behaviour........

On his part, the governor assured the gathered press persons that no effort will be spared in bringing the guilty and errant policemen to book and even took the time out to go and visit the seriously injured pressmen in the hospital where they were taken.....

As is her wont, the chief minister maintained a studied and stoic silence on the sordid episode while a few of her party men and ministers even ventured as far as squarely laying the entire blame for the fracas, imbroglio and sorry state of affairs at the door steps of the members of the fourth estate deputed to cover the official function.........

The Kolkatan media persons are now living in hope and praying that the governor as well as DIG's promise of bringing the guilty and errant police personnel to book.......

As for the chief minister and her "love hate" relationship with the fourth estate, the less said the better.........
